Full description

Transport yourself back to Roman times on a guided tour of Pompeii led by an archeologist. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site for two hours with the help of your expert guide, who will take you around the city preserved by volcanic ash from Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in AD 79. Choose the experience you would like to have, with the choice of either a shared small-group tour or a private tour for your group alone. Start by skipping the line when you enter the city at Porta Marina Superiore, one of the ancient city’s seven gates. Walk the main streets and wander around the Forum, the old heart of the city and the center of public life. From here you can see Mount Vesuvius overlooking the city. Discover constructions such as the Basilica (business and legal center), Thermal Baths, Temples, Bakery and Great Theater of Pompeii. Listen to interesting anecdotes from your archeological guide, who will tell you about people who lived in Pompeii. Even peek at plaster casts of people who were in the city at the time of the eruption. See artworks, mosaics and frescoes in various places that are well-maintained and will take you back nearly 2000 years. Highlights include the House of the Vetti and the Lupanar Brothel. Find out how this famous brothel got its name and see its preserved stone beds and frescoes. Get great tips from your guide at the end of the tour about how to spend the rest of your day, or even choose to stay inside the archeological site longer to explore on your own.

Get directions to the Sanctuary Dedicated to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, the local cathedral that is located close to the excavation site. You can also get directed to the Amphitheater and Orto dei Fuggiaschi.

Our tour guide, Ana, delivered an amazing tour about Pompeii. She was kind, considerate, and extremely knowledgeable about Pompeii’s history and current excavations. We started the tour entering the bath house and proceeded trough the forum, visiting the houses and shops, and finished tour at the small theatre/gladiator barracks. At the end of the tour, we could explore the city by ourselves so we decided to visit the amphitheater. I’m extremely pleased with the visit — the site was nearly empty due to the pandemic — and with our guide who was also an archaeologist and shared bits about the process and progress of modern archeology excavations. All in all it was an unforgettable experience!

Thanks to a fantastic guide (Anna Sorrento, I want to specify name and surname because it was really fantastic), my wife and our 12-year-old daughter Matilde found ourselves walking completely immersed in an ancient world of 2000 years discovering that we "modern" we have not really invented anything because at the time of the Romans in Pompeii they were already light years ahead of us ... I really thank Anna because thanks to her expertise (she is an Archaeologist as well as a lover of Pompeii ...) we got into his time machine and had a fantastic journey. Thank you. We visited Pompeii in early July 2020 accompanied by Sergio, a knowledgeable archeologist passionate about Pompei and all its treasures. We practically had the site to ourselves because of the Covid situation- an incredible delight for us though so sad for the Italian tourism industry. Sérgio was an excellent guide who bought ancient Pompeii to life with his intimate knowledge about how people lived, worked, socialised and loved. We learned so much in just two hours, Sergio packed in so much detail about things we would never have noticed if he wasn’t with us. It was a very special experience we won’t forget. We highly recommend Sérgio, he is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide passionate about the history of this wonderful place and it’s people.
