Full description

Take a 2-hour walking tour of Munich to discover one of the darkest moments in the city’s history, learning of the birth of Nazism, the rise of Hitler, and the infamous Third Reich.

In 1919, Germany was emerging from World War I as a defeated and humiliated nation, with Munich in the grips of hyperinflation and Bavaria dominated by revolution and assassination. Out of this fertile soil of chaos rose the Nazi movement, and one of history’s most powerful dictators, Adolf Hitler.

Follow the inception of Nazism, from the first mass meeting at the Hofbräuhaus to the failed attempt to seize power at the Feldherrnhalle. You will go to the site of party rallies at Königsplatz, and stop in the Hofgarten to talk about The White Rose Resistance Movement.

The tour covers all the important facts and sites that played a role in the origin of this dark chapter, which ended with the beautiful city of Munich in ruins and the second world war cutting deep wounds across Deutschland.

Alex was the tour guide. The total tour group size was about 10 people and the pacing was quite nice. Alex made it a point to constantly check if everyone was fine with the pacing. The tour was very informative (especially for a history idiot like myself) and starts from Adolf Hitler's initial move to Munich to pursure a career in art to his move into politics and how his interest in art and architechture influenced his dictatorship. Alex also provided bits of his own opinions of the modern day Munich, which I found pleasantly unusual for a tour guide. It made me feel as if I was walking around town casually with a local who happens to be a big history buff. I definitely recommend this tour! :)

Florian was a wealth of knowledge and educated our group in such an engaging and interesting way. He was so generous with his time and attention, ensuring all questions were answered and that everyone in his group was able to understand the history he was teaching. Thank you very much, would highly recommend this tour and even more so Florian as your guide!

Our guide was Florian, and he was excellent. We had been to Munich 24 years ago (this time we brought our 15 and 13 year olds), and other than knowing Hitler had spoken at the Hofbrauhaus, we had no idea that Munich was the headquarters of the Nazi party and was where Hitler started the Nazi movement. Florian did a wonderful job explaining the history and showing us the various points around old town Munich where significant events happened - and all with an extra large group of about 25 of us. He explained clearly that Munich had buried as much evidence of Nazism as possible here. Florian also was very approachable and made an attempt to engage with every group by asking where we were from and chatting with various people as we walked from site to site. For those of us who are curious and want to more fully understand history and reflect on how relevant it is to events happening in the US and around the world today, I highly recommend this tour with this tour company and guide.
