Experience the best travel stories for yourself! Join a local expert and uncover hidden gems on this Lonely Planet Experience. Sample the food and wine of Italy on a 2.5-hour walking tour of Lucca, and discover the Italian tradition of the aperitivo on the city’s narrow streets and medieval squares. Enjoy artisanal beers and local wines that will leave you thirsty for more! Become a local for the day as you join your guide outside Lucca Train Station. Learn about (and taste) the food culture of Italy as you stroll the narrow streets contained by the city walls and tall towers. Discover arts and crafts shops selling unique souvenirs, and see some of Lucca’s more than 100 churches. Enjoy an impressive view of Lucca before diving into the local life in the city center, where the beautiful Romanesque marble cathedral stands. Then, head to a favorite local spot: San Michele in Foro Square. This is where locals come to meet up with one another, typically for a friendly chat in a nice bar. While there, enjoy a glass of wine and a snack at a typical Tuscan wine bar. Next, go the only oval square in Italy that takes the place of a typical Roman amphitheater. Relax with a glass of artisan beer produced in the Garfagnana Mountains, along with an essential side of cured meats and pecorino cheese. Make your next stop at a local bakery to try cecina, a traditional, focaccia bread with unexpected ingredients, alongside a glass of Italian beer or wine. Your tour ends here but feel free to hang around, order another drink and soak up the lively atmosphere of the square. Before you go, don’t forget to ask your local guide for more tips on what else to see, do, and eat during your stay in lovely Lucca.

Great Lucca Guide

Sara was a terrific guide. It's her town and she knew it's history well. Friendly and accommodating she was always informative, alway reminding us to look up to learn! Apperitivo wise it was very standard and Lucca is not a big town so whether you need a guide for this is a bit up to yourself. But the tour itself was great and I would recommend both it and the guide.

Very nice tour in the evening with three different culinaric spots. We have been a group with 9 people (two families with 5 kids 4-9years). Also for the kids it was ok with the culinaric meals. Experienced a lot of history in this whole town with a very nice tour guide! Definetely a recommendation!
