Full description
Escape Lisbon and go on a full-day, guided journey to some of Portugal’s most popular locations stopping at the iconic Pena Palace in Sintra, the awe-inspiring cliffs of Cabo da Roca, and the ritzy seaside town of Cascais.  Your journey from Lisbon starts at the famous city of Sintra, whose Romanticist architecture, historic estates and villas, and numerous royal palaces and castles have made it a UNESCO World Heritage site.  Arriving early into Sintra means greater chances of avoiding the long queues at its most famous site, the colorful Pena Palace. The palace’s faithful restoration and fairy-tale-like appearance will impress you with its beautiful facade and extravagant interior. Learn fascinating facts about the distinct architecture and rich history of Pena Palace as your guide leads you on a comprehensive tour through its lavish interiors and lush gardens.  Next, head over to the center of Sintra and get 1.5-hours of free time to wander on your own. Your guide will give you recommendations of the city’s must-see locations as well as the best restaurant options for delicious traditional Portuguese dining.    Continue onto Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe, and take in the impressive views of the ocean crashing against the high rocky cliffs. If weather permitting, stop at Guincho beach, whose strong winds and high swells have made it a popular surfing destination.     Lastly, arrive in Cascais, an elegant seaside resort town on the Portuguese Riviera. Stroll through the lovely city center and make sure to check out Cascais’ luxury marina, its charming fishing port, and a restored fort that houses many local craftsmen. After your free exploration time in Cascais, relax back on board your air-conditioned minivan, and admire more breathtaking views of the Portuguese coast as you make your way back to Lisbon.

This was a great tour and really good to give you a glimpse of places outside of Lisbon. It was worth the early start to see Sintra before it gets too busy. Our guide, Reneta was very knowledgeable and friendly and was really easy-going. We could ask questions and chat as well as have the formal tour. It was well paced and enough time was given in each of the places visited although a little more time in Cascais may have been nice.

Wow! You need to do this, it’s all good and well finding your own way to Pena palace but there is just an incredible amount of symbolism used throughout the architectural complex which was explained thoroughly by our exceedingly knowledge tour guide. Her English was impeccable and her knowledge of Portuguese history was incredible! I have learned so much from this culturally enriching experience. Additionally we were able to visit 3 other key places in sintra, Costa da roca and cascais, tasting the best local gelatos and pastries. I don’t see any other way of visiting these places other than this. Great value for money totally worth every penny! Thank you Paula for your thorough explanations and dedication to our joy, we weren’t the most punctual group when it came to rendezvous. But she was totally understanding that we wanted to explore. But given the fact she had to do this everyday she was brilliant and so patient. Thank you so much!

I was strongly recommend this tour, I had an amazing time and learnt so much. Being able to get to Pena Palace early means that you’re able to miss the large crowds later on in the day. Renata was an amazing tour guide and made the day even more enjoyable!
