Can definately recommend this trip. Tour guide was really knowledgeable & ran the day well. A few stops on the way to & coming back from the bay. Broke up the travel time nicely. But in particular plenty of worthwhile attractions especially at historic Campbell Town. Make sure you buy all your lunch, snacks & coffee needs for the day here. Good uphill walk to the Wineglass Bay lookout. Plenty of places to sit down & rest in need. Most people will find the walk reasonably comfortable. Great views along the way & at the summit - well worth the hike. There is the option to walk to the pristine beach. A tougher walk, lots of stairs & means less time at other places. Honeymoon Bay is nearby & is quite an attractive place in itself. Great place to eat lunch, enjoy the water & relax. Just a minute from the carpark or a 25 minute walk from the Wineglass Bay Carpark. As well as water & bush vistas from various lookouts, there are some amazing rock formations throughout the area.

Driver was knowledgeable, courteous and fun to be with. He provided a lot of valuable information and gave us enough time to linger and explore. It was difficult to hear commentary from the back of the bus. A speaker system for the bus would be good

Full description

We depart Launceston and enjoy a short stop at the Georgian township of Campbell Town for supplies and convict relics. From there we head east, greeted by a spectacular view of The Hazards as we enter Freycinet National Park. A short-but-sensational 20 minute walk along the Cape Tourville Lighthouse circuit reveals 360 degree views before we hike to the Wineglass Bay lookout as a group. This 45 minute ascent gets the heart pumping before revealing one of the best vistas in the Southern Hemisphere. Gaze out over treetops to a sweeping vista of white sand and turquoise water, soaking in the beauty of Wineglass Bay. Depending on how active you’re feeling, you can extend your hike down to the beach for swimming, relaxing and dolphin spotting or return from the lookout with your guide to check out Honeymoon Bay, Sleepy Bay and Cape Tourville Lighthouse. The afternoon brings us to Devil’s Corner winery, perched high on a hill overlooking Freycinet. It’s the ideal place to kick back with a glass of wine, fresh seafood platter, woodfired pizza, tea, coffee or artisan gelato at the end of an action-packed day!

Know before you go

  • This is an active outdoor activity, and it requires some walking. Wineglass Bay Lookout is a 45–60-minute uphill walk, then again back down the hill. There are also longer walking options available that our guide will discuss on the day.
  • All participants should have a sense of adventure, reasonable fitness, and good mobility.
  • Minimum age to participate in the tour is 8 years
  • Our General Meet Point is the Hotel Grand Chancellor, 29 Cameron Street, Launceston. The pickup time at this location is 7.20am. The tour returns to this same location around 6.00pm. Please be ready 5 minutes prior to pick up time.
  • You will have an opportunity to stop enroute to the National Park and purchase a Bakery style lunch to grab sandwiches/wraps etc. Lunch will be enjoyed as you take in the views at Honeymoon Bay.
  • The tour returns to Launceston around 6pm

Our Tour Guide Simon was great, very knowledgeable about Tasmania. The walk up to Wineglass Bay Lookout is around 45 minutes and includes around 400 steps up. It’s not as bad as it sounds! Theres a couple hard bits here and there but most of it is flat walking. The view is also 100% worth it. We stop off at a few other places and is a good road trip overall.
