Full description
Get picked up from your hotel in Irkutsk by an English-speaking guide. Begin the day with a city tour through the historic part of Irkutsk before transferring to Listvyanka. Discover Baikal in Listvyanka village, the most popular holiday location just a one-hour drive from Irkutsk.  Head then to the Museum of Wooden Architecture in Taltsy, founded in 1966 and containing 40 historic and architectural monuments as well as 8,000 exhibits of great historic importance. In 1995, the Russian Federation president issued a decree regarding making Museum Taltsy an object of national history and culture heritage. During the tour of Taltsy Museum, discover 13 architectural complexes with 36 wooden buildings within the museum. Stop at the observation area opposite the famous Shaman Stone. The Angara is 1779 kilometeres long and is the only river flowing out of Lake Baikal. Its source is the widest in the world and it does not freeze during even the most severe Siberian winters. Then, visit the Baikal Museum, established in 1928 when the Baikal Limnological Station opened in the village of Listvyanka. Its unique exhibits shed light on the origin and the history of the lake, its flora and fauna, geological structure, and the climate and tectonics of Prebaikalye. Embark then on a walking tour of Krestovka Village followed by a visit to St. Nicholas' Church. Located in Listvyanka village, the residents there attend service in the church. In the 1950s, the building was restored and many icons from other churches in Irkutsk were brought there, among them some rare items dating back to the 18th century. End the experience with a visit to the local fish and souvenir market. At the market, you can buy souvenirs made by local Siberian masters, and taste smoked fish from Baikal, namely omul (whitefish). Transfer back to Irkutsk.
