Experience

Highlights
  • Reach the Nordkette range by cable car from Innsbruck's historic old town
  • Enjoy 360° views over the city of Innsbruck
  • Be enchanted by Austria's largest nature park: Karwendel
Full description
Begin your journey 560 meters above sea level, not far from the heart of Innsbruck's old town with its historical buildings and the world-renowned "Goldenes Dachl" (Golden Roof). Planned and designed by star architect Zaha Hadid, the Hungerburg funicular is a unique architectural achievement. Hop aboard your panoramic cable car and begin your upward ascent. As you rise upwards, admire how the elegant modern design of the stations contrasts with the rugged mountain landscape. Continue along Seegrube and Hafelekar and notice how the picture changes: your attention will now be caught by the painstakingly renovated station building, which was designed by the Tyrolese architect Franz Baumann. Savor the peace and beauty of nature as your ascent continues and the bustle of the city gives way to the tranquillity of the mountain. All that remains is a spectacular view of Innsbruck. By day it seems so far away it looks like a toy city, at night it shimmers like a sea of lights. After reaching the upper station at 2,256 meters above sea level, you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the city of Innsbruck on the one side and the unforgettable vista of untouched, pristine nature on the other. A visit to the Nordkette, set between the mountain range and the town, promises to be an unforgettable experience. Here you can enjoy a unique combination of relaxation, the wonder of nature, and modern architecture.

The ascent and descent was a great experience, it is very impressive to stand at the top of the mountain and enjoy the view. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and accommodating and the food was also tasty. The little coffee at the second station is also very good. At the end there was a glass of wine. It is definitely worth a trip and can only be recommended.

Absolutely awesome to do at any cost. Above all, be careful from Norkette and not from the congress because the cable car only starts there and before that it is the funicular round trip at 36.50 euros to add. The easiest way is to take the J bus which stops at the cable car for 6 euros 20 round trip from the city or even the surroundings of Vill and Egl. Leave in the morning because a lot of people and wait especially on weekends and in good weather

Fantastic!

The tram departs at an underground station in town (Nordkette cable car and tram) and I think the tram fee is included. The tram takes you to the cable car. So convinient and so beautiful outside. So is so high and the temperature is much lower up there and will be mostly very windy as almost all high mountains. So be prepared. It can be in cloud and different from the town level so watch the weather before you buy ticket(s). It was late July and was supposed to be busy due to school holidays but there was no excessive que anywhere. Enjoy the beautiful scenery. I will go again.
