Full description

Hike up the stunning Mount Batur on an early sunrise trek to its summit. Follow your guide up the mountain, enjoying a well-earned breakfast at the top while you watch the brilliant colors of the sunrise.

Top off your active morning with a soak in a natural hot spring and an invigorating coffee plantation visit.

Get an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Bali in time to watch the sunrise from the top of Mount Batur. Depart between 1:30 AM and 2:30 AM (depending on the location of your hotel), and then journey towards the active volcano near the village of Kintamani. Upon arrival at Mount Batur, get a short introduction and safety briefing from your private guide. All the guides are locals with experience of climbing Mount Batur since they were children.

Benefit from their extensive knowledge and passion for the region before you embark on your 1.5-hour trek to the highest volcanic crater in Bali in time to watch the sunrise. Upon arrival at the top, enjoy breakfast and take in the amazing views of the surrounding area at the break of day. After sunrise, enjoy some time to walk around the crater of the volcano before crossing a hill of lava and black sand.

Trek back down the mountain, and then soothe away your aches and pains at a natural hot spring at 9 AM. Visit a coffee plantation on the way back to your accommodation, and get dropped off by approximately 1 PM at the end of an amazing morning.

Everyone who visits Bali simply has to do this trip: the scenery and up-hill hike are breath-taking (for very different reasons! ), the hot springs are such a welcome reward and the coffee plantation is lovely. I am not unfit and I found the Mount Batur climb a real challenge but nothing a few tears, expletives and breathers couldn’t remedy, and it was so rewarding when we finally reached the top! Our guide, Gede Soma, was so caring, considerate and helpful - he knew where all the really slippery or steep parts were because he climbs it every day! Who better to have with you? He took some lovely photos of us at the top and served us our breakfast. Arta, our driver, drove so carefully around all the windy, little streets - so there was no chance of travel sickness! - and was so polite. The hot springs were so soothing after the climb. Advice I would give is to bring fresh shoes / flip flops because your hiking shoes will be covered in (and full of!) volcanic dust!

We were picked up promptly by our driver Wira at 1:30am. If you have the chance, ask specifically for him as he is a very pleasant, humorous person who provided us with entertaining and informative facts about Bali during the drive. Arriving at the meeting point, we set off properly equipped (sturdy shoes, warm clothing) at around 4:00 a.m. towards the volcano peak. The path is divided into three stages, which vary in difficulty. Our guide Komang has adapted to our pace. At the top we received a delicious breakfast and waited for the sunrise. The weather played along and we were rewarded for the 1.5 hour hike. After descending, we went to the springs, which are quite touristy. The coffee plantation was worth it again, because you could try different types and the view of the jungle was very nice. In short: top volcano hike, other spots optional.

This was a challenging but awesome hike up Mount Batur and we were able to witness the most beautiful sunrise. Our tour guide Kadek Simpen was a great motivator and very knowledgeable about the Volcano. We also revived a nice breakfast at the top from her. Eri our tour driver was so nice to chat to and answered any questions we had about the rest of the trip. He took us to the hot spring which was much needed after our hike f then to a coffee plantation which was an added bonus I did not notice when booking. All round great trip and top guide/driver.
