Full description
This 2.5-hour excursion begins with an introduction to cetaceans (whales and dolphins) and other marine species, their natural habitat, communication, migration and behavioral patterns. After the briefing, board the designated boat and head out to sea. The boat will approach the whales slowly and carefully as the naturalist guides and marine biologists on board provide commentary. The boat trip also includes a tour around the Princess Ring Islet of Vila Franca do Campo, for an up-close look at the volcano and resident wildlife. Light food is permitted on board, and a camera is essential to capture the wildlife you spot on the tour.

An experience not to be missed! I was fortunate to see several sea animals, highlighting two species of dolphins, a sperm whale and a Sardinian whale. As a Portuguese, and without ever thinking about losing the identity of nationality, I think the initial briefing should be in the mother language (Portuguese) with translation in English subtitles.

300 dolphins on the open sea!

We were lucky with the weather (end of September) and so we saw a group of +/- 300 dolphins. An indescribable experience. We also saw 7 sperm whales. We would do it again in a heartbeat. 3 hours is optimal. The crew is very experienced and we didn't feel insecure for a minute.

We have made a tour with Jessie (from Belgium) as a guide. It was therefore an educational journey, with dolphins and whales as the high point. A visit to the lookout post is also recommended. We were also welcomed there. Got a lot of information and were allowed to watch through the viewer there.
