Full description
The aim of this tour is to show you the inside of this impressive building constructed to protect Toledo in the Islamic period. Follow the expert guide to get a fully understanding of the Alcazar by exploring the most interesting rooms. The archaeological remains are already visible from the entrance of the building. Explore an old cistern with two millennia of history, the walls of the Arab Alcazar, the remains of a tower from the 14th century. Thanks to the pictures and displays, imagine how the alcazar was in the past during different eras: a roman pretorio, an islamic fortress and an old palace, destroyed in the 16th century to built a new renaissance palace. Since the year 2009, it houses The National Museum of the Spanish Army. Walk among old military objects like clothes, cannons and swords of singular beauty belonging to characters of Spanish history. Visit an old Armor collection recently donated to Museum. Shudder at the Moscardo’s office, the only room which was not renovated after the Spanish Civil War. Listen to the well-known story about the General Moscardo and the conversation with his son. At the end of the tour, enjoy the views from the northern parade of the Alcazar. Magnificent Museum Great Guide

We booked this on line along with another trip in Toledo and were admittedly a bit nervous about the whole 'meet the guide in the square' thing but in fact it was exactly as described. Regarding the actual tour we met Irene who we immediately took to - one of those bright young intelligent people determined to make your trip a success. We started with a potted history of the city and then over to the Alcazar where Irene explained about the modern building and the the history of the site which was very informative. Once inside Irene took us through the highlights of the building pointing out the archaeological remains, which have been skilfully incorporated into the building, the magnificent exteriors such as the Charles V Courtyard and the key historical events in certain rooms including the very touchy subject of the Civil War. Once our 90 minutes were up Irene left us to our own devices and we spent a couple more hours moving through the exhibit rooms until closing time. Excellent.

Interesting museum, full of history. Fantastic view. I loved it!

Must be visited with time. The 1-hour guided tour helps frame historical facts and highlights the most significant exhibits. But then it is necessary to end the visit calmly, as there are many rooms to be seen and appreciated.

It was very fast and with basic information, nothing new to what I would have seen alone. The guide seemed like he wanted to leave
