Best way to experience Serbia is by foot, and this is exactly what this tour will offer you. We are heading to Ovčar - Kablar gorge along Morava river, unique monastery area where you have 10 Serbian monasteries in a small place between two mighty mountains. One of two monasteries that we are going to visit is Blagoveštenje (Commendation) monastery. This monastery, like most others from that area was built in 15th and 16th century and this monastery always stood out for its beauty. Frescoes of the monastery are well preserved even though monastery survived many turbulent times and it was plundered many times. We will learn there more about interesting history of that area but also we will hear many legends and stories connected to monastery.
After this we are heading for Kablar hike, it will take us around 2 hours to get to the top and trail will lead us through beautiful nature where only “noise” you hear is bird’s song. Hike is not demanding, medium hard, but it will be worth when we get to the top and you see amazing meanders of Morava river. View from the top is really breathtaking and from there you can see most of central Serbia.
After chilling on the top we will head down on a different path towards Nikolje monastery dedicated to St. Nicolas and in it there are relics of St. Nicolas, part of his earthly remains. There we will learn more about monastic life and how nuns and monks spend their devoted life to God.
In the end like cherry on top, we will end our day and tour with a spa treatment in Ovčar banja (spa). Mineral, homeo-thermic water with 38 ˚C is best for exchange of mineral matters between water and human body. In the spa there is also a national cuisine restaurant where you can taste authentic Serbian food from that area and replenish calories that you burned on hiking.
This is a perfect way to spend a day and be one with nature, threat yourself because you deserve it.
