From Rethymno: Samariá Gorge Full-Day Hike

thoroughly enjoyed the trip. The walk through the gorge took me around 4.5 hours. It's mostly downhill and the ground is uneven, rocky with loose stones so good shoes eg hiking boots is a must. You can refill water bottles along the way but defo take a snack. After the gorge its a short walk to the coast and you can spend the remaining time at the beach and there's a variety of options for food and drink. We got the ferry at 17:30 (1 hour 10 minute duration) to take us back to the coach. I got picked up at 5:45 in the morning and didn't reach the hotel again until 21:00 in the evening making it a 15 hour day not the 12 hours that's in the trip description. Would've been good to know this before hand as it meant I missed the dinner I'd already paid for at the hotel

The trip was well organised and the travel was comfortable. The guide spoke English, French and German and was very knowledgeable about the surroundings. Along the route there were plenty of opportunities to refill your water and have a toilet break. The first part of the walk is a steep downhill walk with plenty of shade. The second part of the walk had very little shade as you are walking along the gorge bed. The gorge bed is white stone so the light from the sun is reflected A LOT! Bring plenty of suncream, walking boots, sunglasses and a hat! This is not a walk to take lightly but was a lot of fun and is very rewarding.
