Full description
You will be picked you up from your hotel at 8:00 am and take you to purchase a ticket of Kulen Mountain. We will then head to Phnom Kulen National Park for approximately 1 hour. This journey takes you through rural Cambodian villages, where you may observe locals going about their everyday lives and admire beautiful landscapes such as rice paddies and traditional dwellings. Stop off at the Palm Sugar Village and witness how Cambodian people make their own sugar to supply their families and villages. Afterward, we continue to the hilltop of Phnom Kulen, and our knowledgeable local guide will take you to the most spectacular tourist attractions in the national park, including the largest and most beautiful waterfalls, the reclining Buddha sculpture, and the River of Thousand Linga, which was constructed in 802 AD. In the afternoon, we will have lunch at the local restaurant before heading to Beng Melea, the mysterious 12th-century temple in the middle of the jungle. This temple is heavily overgrown with vegetation, trees, lianas, and mosses. This temple is surrounded by a rainforest due to it being abundant for over 300 years. When it is not fully restored, many local and international tourists fall in love with the area. Continue to take a local boat from the ferry to explore the famous floating village of Kampong Phluk. There, you can see firsthand what everyday life is like for the many families who make their living primarily from fishing. Most families live on the lake shore in brightly colored houses on long poles, so the high water levels are not a problem during the rainy season. Explore the flooded mangrove forest surrounding the area, which is home to a variety of species, including crab-eating macaques and 3,000 inhabitants. We will then take you to visit a Buddhist monastery built on an artificial island. Drop you off at your hotel.

Know before you go

  • The end of March to the end of July is a crucial time in all the floating villages, as the water levels start to recede and present a unique opportunity for tourists to experience a new perspective. Although the picturesque landscape of the floating community may lose some of its charm during this time, visitors have a chance to immerse themselves in the daily life of the villagers living in the dried season. The dry season in floating village may not be the ideal time to visit for those seeking postcard-perfect photos, but it offers a chance to witness a facet of the village’s daily life that is not typically seen. As they say, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. We recommend visitors to embrace this rare chance to witness a different facet of this incredible destination and truly get a different taste of life in the village.

Fantastic tour today with our tour guide Mony and driver Kim. First stopping at a local village to try a delicious coconut cream cake. Then onto Kulen Mountain where Mony took some amazing photos ontop of the mountain surrounded by beautiful rainforest! Then visiting a waterfall where we could take a swim in holy water from the 1000 lingas.. which we visited next! Up the mountain we saw a local temple/reclining Buddha statue which was lovely. After the mountain we visited Beng Mealea (one of our favourite temples).. overgrown into the rainforest making us feel like real explorers! We were provided with delicious local fruits before the drive to a restaurant, which we really enjoyed. To finish the day we went to Tonle Sap lake through a floating village. Mony explained everything and taught us so much about each site and Cambodia. The whole day we were provided with cold water and towels, we felt we went at our own pace and were looked after. We would 100% recomend this tour!

Our guided tour today was very good. The things we saw were very interesting and brought us closer to the life of rural and authentic cambodia. Our guide Mony made that very personable, he's such a knowledgable, helpful, personable guy and speaks clear and fluent English. Our driver Sophat was very polite and courteous, his driving of the van was punctual and perfect.

We had a fantastic time with our guide Sam and driver Tha. Sam was extremely knowledgeable and experienced, and had very good soft skills and emotional quotient. An often underrated skill for a guide is empathy, and Sam made sure that everything about our journey was comfortable. He was able to sense our state of mind and communicate with us accordingly, depending on whether we were full of energy or tired after time out in the sun. I think the best part of our experience was how Sam had a treasure trove of knowledge and sweated the small stuff, paying a lot of attention to detail to everything. He took care of us like an older brother and made our day very memorable. A must book if you want an efficient trip of the outskirts of Siem Reap.
