Full description
Discover the genius of the greatest artists of all time, Michelangelo, through his numerous sculptures at the unmissable Accademia Gallery of Art. Don't waste your time waiting in line and make the most of your visit to Florence with a skip-the-line ticket to the gallery. Get reserved tickets to enter the museum, and enjoy more time to appreciate the art. Inside, admire Michelangelo's David and see how his expression changes as you walk across the room. Marvel at the detail and poise chiseled into a single piece of marble, and find out for yourself why David has captivated generations the world over. David represents a biblical hero winning against Goliath, symbolizing the defense of civil liberties embodied in the Republic of Florence, an independent city in the Medieval and Renaissance Period. In addition, experience other sculptures carved by Michelangelo such as Prigioni (Prisoners). These contorted bodies were meant for the tomb of Pope Julius II, but the tomb was never completed. Explore the museum further and see statues and paintings by other Renaissance artists such as Andrea Orcagna, Taddeo Gaddi, Domenico Ghirlandaio, Filippino Lippi, and Sandro Botticelli. You may also visit the room dedicated to the collection of old musical instruments from the Cherubini Conservatory, the Department of Musical Instruments. This collection includes a violin by Antonio Stradivarius that belongs to the Medicean Quintet.

This was a really easy way to get our tickets. The Accademia is one of the busiest museums - a line around the block - and without a reservation, there's almost no chance of getting in. We waited too late to make our own individual reservations, so we paid just a few euro more for a ticket through GetYourGuide, and it was definitely worth it. We received our digital booklets on time, and our guide was easy to find on the day of.

We purchased the audio guide which was very difficult to follow. The front desk told us to follow the numbers but there were no numbers and we had to guess at what we were seeing. We had to skip around until we found the number that talked about David. The information that was given seemed very basic.

Skipping the line is a huge help in an attraction as famous as the Accademia. We were very pleased with the value. But there are two reasons we’re not giving a full five stars, and GYG/ ACCORD Italy Smart Tours, please note this for improvement. It would have been extremely helpful if the rep from ACCORD Italy Smart Tours had had a flag or prominent sign - we wound up having to wander about the entrance, asking people who turned out to be from other companies or attendants from the gallery, if they were from ACCORD. Fortunately the attendants are familiar with all the guide companies and informed us that the one from ACCORD would be wearing a yellow shirt (which turned out to be a yellow safety vest). The other is that we were never informed as to what link or app or other electronic lead to obtain the digital booklet. So, yes, good value, but room for improvement on the initial experience.
