  • Experience the ancient site of Clava Cairns
  • Witness the historical site of Culloden Battlefield
Full description
Your tour departs Aberdeen and heads straight for the ‘Whisky Capital of the World’, Dufftown. Unfortunately it's too early in the morning to taste the whisky at the Glenfiddich Distillery, but you have time to take a photo of the iconic site and grab a coffee. Venture through the heart of Speyside and arrive at Loch Ness for an optional boat trip which is bookable via your guide on the day of the trip. Onboard the ship, you travel over the widest and deepest part of the loch and get a fine view of Urquhart Castle. Upon your return back on dry land, it’s time to travel deep into the past at Clava Cairns. This spot is situated in a gorgeous green grove and boasts well-preserved ancient burial tombs. They even say this spot was the inspiration for Outlander’s Craigh na Dun. Follow this up with a trip to Culloden Battlefield, the location of the final Jacobite Rising. It’s an eerie, flat, tragic landscape that can put the history of Scotland into perspective. The interactive exhibition center here really brings it all to life. Have a comfort break within the gorgeous Cairngorms National Park before you reach Aberdeen 8:00 PM.

I was sceptical about the quality of the tour as I had read some not entirely flattering reviews. However, it couldn't be further from the truth! You don't spend almost all of your time on the bus, but yes a fair amount of it, but it's quite a long route from Aberdeen to the Inverness area so I think it's perfectly normal. Our guide Jim was very friendly, from the start of the tour he told all sorts of interesting facts about the places we drove past, he was also very funny, he loves his job for sure. Between the attractions and driving in a very comfortable bus from which we had a great view of the surrounding countryside we had our comfortable breaks for a toilet etc. I would highly recommend Rabbies services to anyone, the tour was well organised ran in a relaxed atmosphere and there was no shortage of activities. If you want to see a bit of Scotland without the hassle of changing buses and planning it yourself then this is for you. I will definitely use their services again :) :)

This was a perfect way to get a feel for the highlights of the highlands on a limited schedule. I only had 2 days in Scotland while on weekend from a study abroad program in the UK. This trip made the most of one of those days—Jim was a terrific guide, and I got some great photos from this gorgeous area. Because of this trip, I am already making plans to come back to the area when I can spend an extended period. Highly recommend for the value!

A lot was packed into one day. I do wish there was more time at locations, but I don’t think there is anything I would cut out to make more time. Particularly want to go back and do a much longer boat tour at Loch Ness someday. The guide was funny and had lots of I formation to share, it was a wonderful trip!
