Full description

Rather than driving the 140km directly from Nong Khiaw to Luang Prabang, we take a day trip to Luang Prabang, doing some old-fashioned travel in Laos, taking boat cruises and detours to enjoy the beautiful scenery and local culture as much as possible.

Meet at Manifa Travel Nong Khiaw office, just off the bridge in Nong Khiaw, at 8:45 AM. Board a boat on the Nam Ou River for a misty 2-hour morning cruise to the Second Dam. A minivan awaits you at the dam's boat pier and leaves for Manifa Elephant Camp, where you will have lunch. After lunch, board your boat for a Mekong River cruise. Along the way, stop at Pak Ou, where the Nam Ou River joins the Mekong, to explore the Buddha caves on the opposite bank. Then, head down the river to Luang Prabang. After a stop at a whiskey village that produces sticky rice spirits, the sun begins to set. You will watch a beautiful sunset over the Mekong River from the boat. You will arrive in Luang Prabang just before 6 PM. We will transfer you to your hotel of choice in Luang Prabang.

Meeting point

Right next to Nong Khiaw Bridge. Som Nang View Point, Manifa Travel office that also serves as the ticket office. Meeting time is 8:45AM. Most hotels are within walking distance. Hotels further away should be able to arrange a van or tuk-tuk to take you there. It's a good idea to arrive at the meeting point early (1 hour in advance) and climb up to the viewpoint to watch the sunrise.

I don't know why this tour hasn't had many reviews yet, but it works and is very, very cool! A much more pleasant way to get to or from Nong Khiaw than a 4-5 hour van ride on impassable roads. The tour guides are super nice, and all the stops along the way are excellent! There's no riding involved with the elephants, which we really liked. Instead, there's a huge buffet, and you get to feed the elephants. The boat rides were super enjoyable! Thanks, and we'd love to go again!

Thank you for joining our new tour and for writing a 5-star review. This tour is a new tour from Manifa Travel, so it does not have a review. We opened an office in Nong Khiaw last year, and started offering two new tours with different routes between Luang Prabang and Nong Khiaw. We hope to provide a more fulfilling trip that includes cruises and hikes rather than long transfer in a van.
