Full description

Gain instant access to the ancient Roman town of Herculaneum with your priority entrance ticket. Herculaneum was buried under ash after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD but, unlike the nearby site of Pompeii, a lot of the town was preserved: roofs, beds, doors, food, and even 300 skeletons. Walk the cobbled streets of this UNESCO World Heritage Site and get a glimpse of what life was like before the devastating eruption. Marvel at artifacts that have kept their original form for almost 2000 years.  Explore intact buildings at your own pace, see well-preserved frescoes and imagine the daily rituals of those using the shops, public gymnasium, and public swimming baths that can still be seen today.

Much smaller than Pompei so you can take more time to visit, get lost and listen to the explanations of the audio guide. It's a good summary of Pompei when you're short on time, in case of strong heat or for people who might have difficulty walking the streets, steep ruins. Good conservation

Easy to buy tickets. It's not very clear, when you come out of the train station, where Herculaneum is. We didn't see any signs but another traveller told us it was straight down the main road towards the sea, about a 10 min walk. Not a lot of signs in English around Herculaneum (or Pompeii), so if your not on a guided tour it can be a struggle to obtain information.

We took our printed vouchers to the main building for entrance and were quickly ushered to a window, avoiding all the long lines of folks who didn't have tickets. After that, we did our own self tour of the ruins. I had not reserved the audio guide with the entrance ticket, so I would recommend that to anyone to do so. We could not get the audio guide as a result and missed some important information. Luckily, I had been there before and remembered some facts. It is a worthy place to visit, less people than Pompeii and actually more interesting. Glad we got our tickets ahead.
