The museums were amazing. They were a little hard to find but ultimately worth the wait and walk. While it didn't spoil our visit, it's worth noting that due to the amount of people and some tighter spaces, it got uncomfortable and humid at points and this was in late November.

Personally, I’m glad I went without a tour. Instead, I used the Rick Steves Free audio guides for the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. Here are suggestions and notes: 1) Book the first time slot for high or low season OR in high season, go in the evening after tours leave. In low season it closes earlier so you can’t go that late. 2) Friday is usually the least busy day. 3) Using the Rick Steves audio guides allow you not to carry the bulkier handheld guide from the museum. Also, I was able to manoeuvre away from tour groups so I was often in rooms with nobody or very few people. Please note I went in November, so this may be different for you. The entrance for people who have the voucher is to the right of the entrance. Go around the people lined up beside the wall. You will see some steel gates and you will see a sign for “Get your guide”. Show them your voucher and then make your way inside toward the left where it says “Reception.” Then, enjoy!

It was nice to skip the line but it was a little confusing. There wasn’t a get your guide sign like the said. We entered in with everyone else and went through security, once upstairs a worker looked at my voucher and pointed me to a ticket booth that printed you actual tickets. It was an easy process but unclear. The GYG app also says to bring a passport which was totally unnecessary as well as wearing a n95. That is no longer a thing there.
