I‘ve been on some boring, stolidly-pressnted street art tours in my time, so I was apprehensive about this one, which I‘d booked nonetheless since it was one of the few activities on offer on Christmas Day. Happily my worries turned out to be thoroughly misplaced, since our guide Manuela was a great, engaging and assertive presence, who radiated 100% competence and determination, and who was fluent in English to boot. And so in the gritty backstreets of the Spanioli quarter we were given a lot more insights into feminist reinterpretations of Naples‘ founding myth, subversively reimagined harlequins, the secret afterlife of royal palaces, and, of course, El Dieguito, than I would‘ve consciously set out to glean on my own, but which were fascinating, and, above all, compellingly spelt out, nevertheless.
Stefano was really a great guide - he was very knowledgeable, entertaining and I love how he shared snippets of Naples and the Spanish Quarter. Highly recommended! Thanks for suggesting places to go for lunch and local authors and poets to look out for.
