Etna: Urban Winery, Vineyards Walk & Wine Tasting at Sunset

Angela was our guide. When I asked her about the vineyard or making wine, she was very knowledgeable. She has a pleasant personality and good English. I loved seeing how they made wine in the 1700’s, cement and stone fermentation tanks, a stone press, a gravity flow system for the grape juice and 10 thousand liter wooden barrels for holding the wine. The wine tasting was a nice ending for the day. We tasted 4 wines, a sparkling white, an Etna white, an Etna Rose (Barone di Villagrande 2022), and a IGT red (Etna Urban Winery 2022) all paired with small amounts of gourmet food. My favorite was the IGT red and I bought 2 bottles, my second choice was the Etna Rose, and I bought 3 bottles on the Internet; both wines are very different and very GOOD. Angela was very knowledgeable about the complexity of each wine and how the taste is affected by the soil (Mt. Etna), and weather. A nice experience if you are in the Catania or Taormina area. It was amazing! Angela was brilliant, told the story of the vineyard with her heart and soul. The food was amazing and the vine was perfect. All together in combo so worth it!!!
