Discover the Roman Empire’s most famous amphitheater on a guided visit at the quietest time of day, at night. Enter the amphitheater and listen as your guide brings to life the arena’s past. Imagine the crowds in the stands cheering on their favorite gladiator.  Continue to the Underground chambers and passageways that normally have restricted access to the public. See where the wild animals and gladiators were stowed before their battles and the numerous elevators that hoisted beasts into the arena. Let your guide bring the Colosseum’s history to life, with stories of gladiators that fought here and what life in the arena was like. Enjoy the advantage of visiting at night, when the crowds have gone and the monument is illuminated in lights.

Not as informational as I thought

Finding our guide was stressful because there’s multiple guides beginning at the same time, running late, beginning early to where you begin to think “did I book it in the wrong language?” Our guide finally arrived but barely held up the sign, so I’m hoping we didn’t leave anyone behind. You have to go up to each sign holder and ask to see if it’s yours. Then its actually a tour with a worker of the Colosseo, not from this page. The tour guide we had was nice but hard to understand due to his accent. So lots of missing pieces, and surprisingly what no one learns through life is that through switches of emperors they took apart all of these ancient places so when you go, the stage is missing, along with all other marble accent pieces leaving it harder to understand what you’re looking at

A night visit that is worthwhile and out of the ordinary with access to underground parts as intriguing as it is interesting and a passionate guide who shares with us the fascinating history of the monument. The only regret would be the lack of lighting for the central part (the arena).

It was lovely to see the Colosseum at night. I have been before during the day, but the night gives a whole new perspective. If you think far enough in advance, the underground section is definitely worth it. I was hoping to see more of the underground area, but most of it is being worked on and filled with scaffolding. You get to go under the section which has the recreated arena level.
