Full description

Choose from either a shared group or private guided experience to see 2 iconic markets on a day trip from Bangkok. See a market located on the railway tracks, the Maeklong Railway Market, and a market that floats on the canals at the Damnoen Saduak Market. After pickup, arrive at the Maeklong Railway Market, also known as Talad Rom Hup (“Umbrella Pulldown Market”). Maeklong is one of the largest fresh seafood markets in Thailand and hugs the track of the Maeklong Railway.

Gain fascinating insights into how the market is run and what products are sold here from your local guide. Marvel at how market stalls and awnings are pulled back from the tracks every time a train approaches to let the train pass through. Next, head to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, one of the most famous floating markets in Thailand. To reach the market, take a short ride in a paddleboat. Enjoy plenty of time to meander around the colorful market, where friendly vendors sell directly from their boats.

Take in the sights and sounds, and try local specialties like mango sticky rice. Your guide will give you advice on what not to miss. Return to Bangkok in time for the early afternoon.

Know before you go

  • The boat ride at Damnoen Saduak usually involves a traffic jam. To enhance your customer experience, this tour does not include the boat ride on the canal. However, if there is less boat traffic on the day of your visit and you would like to take a boat trip, your guide can contact the boat vendor for you to guarantee the best price (normally about 150 Baht for a 25-30 minute ride)
  • Due to some remaining Covid-related restrictions, the markets may not be as lively as expected. Not all vendors have fully resumed selling at their stalls

We really enjoyed our day trip to the markets. Kiwi, our guide, was so funny and knowledgeable. She gave us a lot of information on the schedule and the backgrounds. The time on the two markets is not very long and so we sometimes felt a little hurried. But we knew this beforehand. The Floating Market is quiet touristy, but it's still a great experience and the food is good and affordable. We especially enjoyed the train ride to the market street. You get a different perspective when watching it from the train. We still had enough time to see the train depart afterwards and watched it from the railway, too.

My husband and I very much enjoyed this tour with Tanya, our guide, who was friendly, informative, and a pleasure to be around. Pickup was on time, our driver was careful and we felt safe throughout the day. It is a simple tour of both the train and floating markets, moving from one stop to another pretty quickly, which was perfectly fine with us as we wanted the experience of being on the train, watching it go by and travelling on the boat. There isn’t much time for shopping at the train markets (I managed to get souvenirs under 5 minutes before the train arrived, so if you want to, do it quick!), and then more time to shop at the floating market or to have lunch and try local dishes/ snacks. We were also pleasantly surprised with a stop at Kalong sea salt station to taste and see. This was a very brief stop just before the train ride. All in all, very happy as it was value for money in our opinion. We got dropped off at MBK Centre which is super convenient and a central location.

Excellent tour, highly recommend. Guide was fantastic and you get to see a lot on your trip. You don't actually spend much time at the railway market, it's timed so you get the train there and drive through market, hop off and then see it pass through from the ground.
