Full description
Explore Budapest through its alternative cultures on a 3-hour small group walking tour of the sights and historical landmarks that other tours rarely show you. Go deeper into Budapest’s underground music, fashion and art scenes, and explore the present and future, rather than the past. Head away from the main tourist hangouts to explore Budapest's Jewish district, where the city’s alternative culture is kicking off. Just like East Berlin after the wall, Budapest's uncared for districts are becoming the places to be. Learn about, and visit, squats, cultural centers, abandoned synagogues and art galleries. Stop for a coffee or beer at an art and coffee collective, or a ruin bar-cum community center, bike workshop and analogue photography gallery!

Anna our guide was enthusiastic and shared a lot of interesting details. She even guided us in places that was out of the tour. It was a really enlightening tour allowing to have a deeper insight on local's daily life. Wish we had done the tour on the first day! Despite the rain we enjoy it to the utmost!

Great experience!

Our guide on the Alternative Budapest Walking Tour was Raymond. It was a pleasure to have him as our guide, and he was very knowledgeable, cheerful and easy to understand, and happy to answer all our questions. We learned a lot about the old Jewish area and how it had now changed to become a very sought after place to live, full of restaurants, cafe's and bars. During the visit we had an excellent coffee in the eco design shop Printa. We also visited a book shop cafe and finished off in the fabulous ruin bar Szimpla Kert, which is a unique place consisting of lots of rooms around a courtyard and including a first floor. Every room is different and full of interesting mismatched objects, including an old Trabant, converted into a seating area. This place is not to be missed if you like something a bit unusual and different. We thoroughly enjoyed this alternative walk!

walking tour embracing streetart and history

I was taking the tour with Anna who is a super friendly and easy going hungarian. She walked us around the famous Deak Ferenc Square and deeply into the beautiful and interesting seventh district of budapest. Most of the stops were at streetart-spots, she also gave many explanations about the history of budapest. All in all a lovely trip that you shouldn't miss!
