Full description
Visit Strawberry Field, a former Salvation Army children’s home in the suburbs of Liverpool, made famous by the 1967 Beatles’ song ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’. Through archival footage, photographs, timelines, and a specialist media guide, experience the world where John Lennon played as a child and what happened behind the famous red gates. Immerse yourself in the life and times of Lennon through interactive exhibitions, and then enjoy a walk through the garden and woods, which some visitors claim to be a spiritually lifting experience. At Strawberry Field, you can also learn about the links with the Salvation Army and the work carried out here today as part of the ‘Steps to Work’ program. After you’ve explored, relax with some refreshments at the Imagine More Cafe and wander through the onsite gift shop.

It's a 'self guided tour' which means you are given a device rather like a smartphone with a headset. This syncs with the video content on the video screens inside and contains other information if you want to go deeper into the subject. The exhibition goes into the history of the house, the history of the Salvation Army who acquired it in 1936 and operated it as a children's home and of course the connection with John Lennon and the Beatles. There's also some physical memorabilia in there including a very special piano, and the exhibition ends with an immersive psychedelic projector show depicting the sang Strawberry Fields Forever. It was only £11 to see the exhibition which I thought was good value but if you want, you can just go to the cafe or wander around the gardens which are free admission. On a weekday it's a peaceful place just to relax for an hour, although it might be busy at peak times. For Beatles tourists there's a good souvenir shop to spend your holiday money.

It was amazing, what a wonderful place and definitely not what we expected. The Salvation Army have got this so very right. Support to young people in many different ways and a truly wonderful history brilliantly told of Strawberry Field and John Lennons part in it. Great food to be had, friendy staff and the gift shop is probably the best in Liverpool. The garden is inspirational and we were very lucky to listen to a young guitarist playing and sing in the bandstand and wandering. We are back in Liverpool soon and will be going to Strawberry field again and forever!

It was totally great. The exhibition was soo good. I was very surprised at how good it was. Didn't expect it. A few surprises and things I didn't know. Garden was lovely and it was a relaxing peaceful walk. I was upset at the houses at the back. They were not there before when I went a few years ago. Sad how they decided to sell off that land. Was it really necessary? I will be returning however. With my children next Time. Perhaps in Autumn when they have Scouse on the menu.
