Covid-19 Update

Due to health and safety regulations, this itinerary may change. See Know before you go for the latest updates.

Enjoy a hassle-free tour of the Colosseum and Ancient Rome at night and avoid the crowds. Your tour starts with a smooth stroll along the Roman Forum.  As the light fades, you will see the heart of Rome’s historic center, with its temples, arches, and the sanctuary of Ancient Rome’s famous Vestal Virgins. On your way down Via dei Fori Imperiali, you will see the highlight of your tour: the Roman Colosseum. At this time of night, the Colosseum is virtually empty so you will have a rare experience as your guide leads you around, explaining the history and characters that make the place so fascinating. You will wander the arena floor and see centuries-old graffiti on the Colosseum’s walls. Your tour ends before midnight, when the night is only starting in Rome. Head to the nearby Monti area for dinner or take some time to wander around and photograph the Colosseum – a more peaceful, beautiful, and atmospheric place at this time than ever.

    Meeting point

Please be at the meeting location 15 minutes before departure time. Late-comers won't be able to join the tour. Please note: the meeting point is not at the Colosseum. The tour commences on the platform directly in front of Trajan’s Column. Trajan’s Column is located on Via dei Fori Imperiali next to Piazza Venezia. When standing right in front and facing the Victor Emmanuel II Monument (a.k.a. the “Wedding Cake), it’s directly to the left across the street. Your tour coordinator will be waiting here wearing either a blue polo shirt or blue jacket with the City Wonders logo printed on it. Arriving by taxi: Ask the taxi driver to take you to Piazza Foro Traiano. You will see the roughly 30m high Trajan’s Column as you enter the Piazza, and the meeting point is up the steps on the platform next to it.

This was incredible. Our Guide was amazing and so knowledgable. It was a great tour to take on our first day in Rome after disembarking from our Cruise. The Colosseum is so amazing to see lit up at night. The group is not gigantic and you have such personalized experience entering the Area after typical tour hours. Yes, it's going to be pricier than if you went in the day and bought your ticket per Rick Steves for like 12 Euro- but .... go big or go .... how often do you get to see the Colosseum? and then how ofter do you get to see it at night? My 20yo, 17yo, the 53yo and this 50yo were impressed- and glad to have gone!

The appearance of the Colosseum at night is very impressive. The guides were very knowledgeable. Inside the Colosseum, the lighting is poor and the footing not so good. Equipping the guide at the Colosseum with a small flashlight would be helpful, I noticed some visitors were using their cell phones as flashlights. The testimonials and film presentation were well done, and the visit below the stage was very interesting. I would have enjoyed access to the gift shop, but that was not a huge problem for me.

The guides were great and very knowledgeable, but overall the tour was too long. If you could keep it up 2 hours maximum, that would be better. And please encourage people who have questions to ask them of the guide at the end of the tour, after everyone else has gone, so that they don’t hold everyone else up.
