Unfortunately due to bad weather our guide chose not to let us do the Caldeirão Verde walk, but the Levada do Rei. I enjoyed the excursion itself very much as did the guide, although I was a little disappointed because from the photos and online reviews Caldeirão looks much more varied and interesting than Levada do Rei. Pity!

The Levada walk Caldeirao Verde waterfalls was a beautiful 14km walk in every way. For aging ladies, who recognize that scenting needs to be done more often every day, it was a bit of a thing. One could say behind the tree... but there is probably none. Abyss on one side and a high rampart on the other. Things don't go so well when you know that you still have an hour and a half to go before you can empty your bladder. That was a bit of a shame .... would be nice if you could pee 1x on the way. The guide was fine and above all humorous. It was described in the book that this should be the most beautiful levada walk. However, we found after a few hours of walking that it became a bit monotonous. Further comments are only positive! Madeira is a beautiful island with undoubtedly more beautiful levada walks. Recommended! Choose the right footwear.

The levada walk was fun and informative. Although it is more of a full-blown hike than a "walk" as described. A total of 4 hours there and back (13 km), pure walking time over roots and stones is not without, even if there was a 30-minute break at the destination, at the waterfall. Luckily I'm still in some physical condition at my age. Perhaps the data (time, distance) should be adjusted!?! In total, it took me 10 hours from picking me up at the hotel to getting back to the hotel. But I was also one of the first to be "picked up" by the minibus and one of the last to be dropped off again.
