Full description
The tour will start with hotel pick-up. Then, you will arrive at an ecological reserve, a small Mayan community in the forest, that maintains its traditions. Here you will visit a typical Mayan cabin where you will learn about its old customs. You will have an introduction to the ceremony of Mayan purification. You will learn how to play the sea snail, which you will use during the ritual to unite us with the nature. Meet with the Shaman around the ceremonial circle where you will be part of a spectacular ancestral ritual of purification and will have the unique opportunity to enter the Temazcal (old sacred steam bath). Walk in the rain forest until arriving at the illuminated natural well (cenote) at night to swim in crystalline waters.  It is an unforgettable experience to enjoy this moment, gain energy and to relax. Hot chocolate is served in a typical Mayan jicara, which you will be able to keep as a gift. Enjoy a typical Mayan dinner with a family from the community, before going back to your hotel.

My 13 year old daughter and self attended the experience last night and it was the highlight of my trip. I have been to Mexico several times and have done most of the touristy things, but this was unique and impactful. Everything ran smoothly from pick-up to drop off. We were picked up at 4:30pm from our Cancun hotel lobby by shuttle. It took about 1.5 hours to get to the jungle location. Once there we had about 45 minutes to explore the grounds. Important fact: Half of the proceeds from the gift shop go towards teaching Mayan language and culture to indigenous people of this area at on site school. Our guide showed gave us an educational tour of what an ancient Mayan home looked like and what consisted inside. He was very friendly and open to questions. We then went into a hut and sampled a freshly made tortilla from one of the women there. We were then led to the ceremonial area where we were informed of what the process would be during the ceremony. Highly recommend!

Great experience. Guide gave very good insight into Mayan culture and rites

Good trip, but not enough time on site, for example, to bathe in cenote or for a little chat with the Mayans. The traditional cocoa drink with Mayan jar did not take place either. Is therefore too expensive for this excursion per person. The food was good. The friendliness of the Mayans and the ritual were unique. On this excursion you should really have the opportunity to get in touch with the people at least half an hour, otherwise the excursion seems too commercial. It was a total of 4.5 hours with the trip. My partner, who was there with her son, is a shaman and naturopath, sees it the same way.

Something different

I really enjoyed this experience. Being in a group created a fun, summer camp vibe. They let you interact with the things and be a part of the experience. It was nice to try something different on my Cancun vacation. My only complaint is that it takes longer than noted. My pickup time was at 3:45pm and I arrived back at my hotel at 12:15 am. The location is very far south of Cancun.
