Full description

This 3.5-hour educational tour about how this concentration camp claimed over 1 million victims is a must-see. The complex comprises 3 main camps: Auschwitz I was the administrative center; Auschwitz II, or Birkenau, was the extermination site; and Auschwitz III, or Monowitz, was a labor camp. Built in 1940, Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest concentration camp operated by the Nazis. Before the liberation of Auschwitz on January 27, 1945, the SS attempted to destroy the camp and burn the archives. The Polish government restored Auschwitz–Birkenau as a moving memorial to the victims. Upon entering through the main entrance, see original camp buildings in the main part of the complex. Visit the museum with its permanent exhibition, an opportunity to learn about the real stories of prisoners and see their personal belongings. Finally, visit the extermination camp at Birkenau, where gas chambers and crematories are located. The duration of your visit to Auschwitz I lasts two hours and the visit to Auschwitz II lasts one hour. There are three breaks during the tour: the first is 10-20 minutes after arriving from Krakow; the second is 10-15 minutes before going to Auschwitz II, Birkenau Camp; and the third is 10 to 20-minute before heading back to Krakow.

Great tour! You would learn so much from the tour guide. I found some rooms in the concentration camp really disturbing and I can't look at it (esp the hair one). Make sure you bring umbrella and a hat and lots of water if you visit on a sunny cause it's extremely hot and no shade at all in Auschwit II.

I took it in English (even though my main language is Spanish) and the guy was EXCELLENT. I think it was the best tour in my life. I was fully concentrated the whole time (which is difficult to me when the tour is this long), English SUPER clear, detailed and understandable history which made me cry a few times. SUPER recommended. It’s sad I can’t remember his name, it started with M. The only thing I can “complain” would be, to set the video we watch on the way there with subtitles because the volume was low and the people were talking so it made hard to follow the story

The museum and the visit to the fields were very interesting. I find the € 50 surcharge not fair depending on the language. We were forced to listen to the whole tour in English. I wonder why a place like this where they should encourage visits and pass on information to ensure that such a horror never happens again, should be an obstacle to choose the language of your country. There were numerous kids and children present and not all of them understood the English language.
