Settled in the 9th century, this picturesque city is home to a walled historic center, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From there we will carry on to the largest city in the Minho region, Braga. The oldest city in Portugal, and one of the oldest in Europe, Braga boasts several beautiful churches, in particular the Braga Cathedral. Enjoy a stop for lunch in Braga (not included), surrounded by an impressive blend of medieval, neo-classical and baroque architecture. After lunch, we will drive to Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal and a World Heritage Site, since 2001. This was the city where the first King of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques, was born. The history of Guimarães is related to the foundation of the national identity and the Portuguese language. We will have the opportunity to enter and explore the Castle of Guimarães, the 10th-century national symbol. From the outside, its medieval structure looks impressive; on the inside, you can have stunning views over the city. Then, we will continue passing through the Palace of the Bragança Dukes and the São Miguel Church. Observe the imposing statue of D. Afonso Henriques and walk through the Martins Sarmento Square. To end this short walking tour, you will discover the Santa Maria Street, the City Hall, the Santiago Square, and the Senhora da Oliveira Church. Guimarães is an authentic example of the evolution of a medieval city throughout History! From there we will take the short trip back to Porto, arriving in the evening.

The Peneda-Gerês National Park (PNPG) is a protected area in the far north of Portugal. It develops between the regions of Minho, Trás-os-Montes and Galicia (Spain), and affects the territory of Terras do Bouro, Melgaço, Arcos de Valdevez, Ponte da Barca and Montalegre. This huge green area of around 70,000ha, where 240 species of vertebrate fauna and 1100 of flora cohabit, together with the Spanish park Baixa-Limia, forms the cross-border park Gerês-Xures. The diversity of the biosphere is distinguished/preserved by UNESCO (2009) as a world reserve. The PNPG is subdivided into 4 mountain ranges - Peneda, Amarela, Soajo and Gerês, and is cut by two large rivers - Lima and Cávado, in addition to the numerous tributaries with their source in the mountain itself. There are more than 500 sites of historical and archaeological interest in the park, with special emphasis on the Roman Geira and milestones - the ancient path that led legionnaires between Bracara Augusta and Astorica Augusta. From untouched nature, to hidden waterfalls that guide us to beautiful lakes, the PNPG offers the most impressive landscapes in the region, and certainly the most immersive experience in the north of the country! Santiago is one of the most popular destination for catholic pilgrims in the whole world. Is the capital of Galiza (Spain), and is the location of the Santiago Cathedral (1075 – 1128), where the remains of Santiago the apostle can be found. The Routes to Santiago are humanity heritage by UNESCO and are used by thousands every day on the journey to the religious capital of the Iberian Peninsula. On our tour we will dedicate the morning to visit the cathedral, and after lunch hanging around the middle age city of Santiago, discovering some secrets in its narrow streets. On the return there’s also a stop in Valença do Minho, the Portuguese border city at the top north. Here we will focus our visit in the fortification with roots from the XII and visible reconstruction from the XVIII. A unique view for the city, Minho river (natural border), and Spanish side.
