Our Ultimate Aurora Photo Adventure offers you THREE different ways to see the northern lights: depending upon the weather and aurora forecast we will hunt for the lights on foot at a nearby teepee, chase the lights in a modern 4×4 van, or ride on a cozy sleigh which is pulled behind a snowmobile to one of our wilderness camps in and around Abisko National Park. Capture the true feeling of a winter night in the arctic. Your guide will take you to learn the wintry way of movement with snowshoes. While walking on the snow, you will experience how the milky light of the moon and stars cast enchanting shadows through the snowfields. In Abisko there is a lot of animals that dwell in the birch forest during winter, so the possibility to see a lot of tracks is quite big. Most likely you will see tracks of forest hare, ptarmigan, foxes, lemmings, and if you are lucky you might even spot tracks form a moose. During the tour we will have a break and enjoy some warm berry juice while the only sound you hear is the sough of the forest and fells. If you are lucky, you may even see the Northern Lights dance over the lake Torneträsk and over the mountaintops. If there is a full moon and a clear sky you will also get a spectacular view over the Abisko mountain range which includes one of Sweden’s most famous mountain formations Lapporten which is a U-valley sculptured by the ice age.

After all the guests have gathered, your aurora-chasing guide will use their collective experience combined with local weather and aurora forecasts to make the best possible decision about where to look for the northern lights. Travel up to 90 km to one of several spectacular locations with a proven track record and a very high likelihood of success. Learn about aurora borealis and the history of Abisko National Park from your guide on the way. Upon arrival at your location, be treated to a cup of hot drink. If the location of the night is on a lake or river, see the auroras reflect on the open water. Some popular locations include the scenic shoreline of Lake Torneträsk with stunning views in every direction or a calm bay at the northwest end of Lake Torneträsk with Arctic views and a cozy fire pit. You may also find an amazing aurora outlook in the mountains surrounding Björkliden, or on the top of Bear Mountain near the border of Sweden and Norway. Alternatively, head to a remote fishing village near the mouth of the Torne River which flows out of Lake Torneträsk.

Details 4h, Pick up time 10:15 PM, drop off 02:30 AM We will pick you up at your hotel in Kiruna at 22:15 and drive out to our village 15km outside of Kiruna. Here we provide you with winter overalls, winter boots, mittens and winter hats. We put on our snowshoes and have explore along the frozen Kalix River to spot the Northern Light and take photos. After the snowshoe hike we arrive at our tipi tent and have a BBQ by the campfire. We serve coffee and tea after the dinner. If we are lucky with the Northern Light we will remain in the area after dinner but if the weather is cloudy we will to drive you towards Nikkaluokta or Abisko to see if the night sky clears up when we change the area. At about 02:30 we will be back in Kiruna at your hotel. On this Aurora Kiruna Midnight Session we spend the night away from the city lights to have the best conditions possible for seeing the aurora in Kiruna. In the case where there is a very low or zero chance, we will contact you to reschedule you for a better night.

Between Darkness and Twilight - The Colors of Sunrise in the Arctic Circle Here in Abisko, one of Sweden's northernmost towns, the sun set on December 6th, 2022, marking the start of the polar night. The polar night lasts for several weeks, until in mid-January to mid-February, the sun will rise above the horizon once again and the light will officially return to the many towns and regions above the Arctic Circle. Impatiently, we await the return of the sun, a special time that we will celebrate by hiking to Bjorkliden to welcome the sun. As the sun rises, the sky shows us stunning displays of pink, orange and purple, covering even the snowy mountains. During the hike, we will enjoy the stunning views of Abisko Village, Lake Tornetrask and Lapporten. Our experienced guides will show you off-trail places that you will not be able to visit on your own. When we arrive at our viewing destination, we will enjoy traditional Swedish cookies and hot chocolates while we admire the sunrise and the pink pastel sky. It was a great experience. The guide was very prepared and nice. Also, the transport was very comfortable. They offered us some good and warm Fika into a cup that was left to us as a souvenir. Overall, it was good way to approach ice climbing for the first time.
