It was a great tour. The guide was engaging and knowledgeable. GetYourGuide should give guidelines to participants about tipping. No one on our tour (except me) tipped the tour leader, driver or even the volunteer who gave us a thorough presentation in Hector Pieterson Memorial Park. Please understand the tipping culture in an economy with over 25% unemployment and where everyone needs a gig to survive. 10 - 20 Rand per person goes a long way- that’s 70 - 1.40 $US.
The tour was well organised. Worth a half day trip. You get a local tour guide to walk a bit inside Soweto which is a great expensive and gives you a chance to interact with the locals. There was no WiFi on the minivan as indicated but that gave us a chance to concentrate on the guide and appreciate the stops uninterrupted. We covered all the historic stops and took time to take them in.
Due to COVID we could not pet the lion cubs, we did however enjoy the park. Our 4 year old and 1 year old were very interested and enjoyed riding in the safari bus. Our driver Nick was very helpful and an excellent navigator. We would recommend this tour if you want to get up close and personal with some of the animals at the park. The Lions came right up to the bus!
A really good and safe way to see the major sights of Johannesburg with a good commentary which provides context to what you are seeing. Easy to hop off and on at interesting sights and guides who escort you to landmarks such as the Carlton Tower and the add on Soweto tour is also well worth doing.
Safari excellent. Cradle of Mankind very interesting. Caves were mixed thoughts. Caves not for non athletic visitors. Caves requires you to duck below 3 feet multiple times and get clothes muddy crawling through tunnels. Some good rock formations but covered in black dust.
