Alappuzha, also known as the "Venice of the East", is an important tourist destination in India and the backwaters of Alappuzha are the most popular tourist attraction in Kerala. A houseboat cruise on these backwaters is a delightful experience. Alappuzha is a landmark between the broad Arabian Sea and the web of rivers flowing into it. It is a town in the Alappuzha District in the southern Indian state of Kerala. Lord Curzon, the Viceroy of the Indian Empire, made a visit to Alappuzha in the early 20th century. Friendly, helpful staff, very good local cuisine. Boat was comfortable not luxurious. Bed linen needs replacing....two single sheets on a double bed!! Decent bathrooms. Air-conditioning worked but was not available immediately, so be sure to check as it gets hot! All in all an enjoyable experience.

This is a must do activity when in Kerala without a doubt. The day started with ourselves (2) collected from our hotel promptly and transferred to the boat which was about 1.5 hours from Fort Kochi. We arrived and were greeted and undertook some paperwork, the only thing we were not told about is they need your passports and did not have them with us but it proved not to be a major issue. We then were transferred to our boat with 3 staff and a boat to ourselves. The staff during the overnight trip were fantastic and looked after us very well, also the food was good and we cannot praise the whole operation enough. DONT THINK ABOUT IT, DO IT.
Fantastic trip. Our crew were great - really attentive. The food on board was some of the best we had whilst travelling in India (albeit there was a lot of it!). Would recommend to anyone visiting the area
prompt and efficient taxi transfers from and to our hotel, comfortable and spacious accommodation, delicious food and a very attentive and helpful crew. The canoe excursion was an unexpected bonus.
A wonderful experience in a wonderful landscape. Luxurious boat for 4 people, super clean, extremely friendly and helpful team - and the chef outdid himself, the food was excellent
Who would have thought just doing nothing seeing the world conducting its business could be so calming!
