Seasonal food markets like La Boqueria offer hearty Catalan dishes, while cultural festivals and events bring the city to life. From catching a football game at Camp Nou to strolling through Poble Espanyol’s recreated Spanish towns, these are some of the best things to do in Barcelona in October to make the most of your trip.

Why go to Barcelona in October?

The leaves change color, even with the Mediterranean climate

Although Barcelona has a mild Mediterranean climate, it still offers a surprisingly vibrant autumnal display. From mid to late October, the city's trees, especially the iconic plane trees lining La Rambla, turn a striking golden yellow, adding to the city’s beauty.

It’s a great time to try seasonal Catalan delicacies

As the weather cools, October is a fantastic time to try tasty Catalan comfort food in Barcelona, such as escudella (a hearty meat stew), panellets (almond sweets for All Saints’ Day), and castanyes (roasted chestnuts) by street vendors. October also marks the tail end of wine harvest season, so it’s a perfect time to try local wines and take day trips to nearby vineyards.

October has many festivals and cultural events

October in Barcelona is packed with cultural events and celebrations. October 12 marks Día de la Hispanidad, Spain's National Day, commemorating Columbus' arrival in the New World in 1492. Oktoberfest Barcelona is a lively time in the city, with beer, bratwurst, and live music in a festive setting in Plaza Universo. My first time paddle boarding experience was the most amazing experience I’ve ever had. My instructors Cintia and Maria were both incredible, friendly, warm and super welcoming. From start to finish, Cintia and Marias enthusiasm and expertise made the day unforgettable. They greeted us with a warm smile, ensuring everyone felt confident and good, ensured we understood what to do very clearly for a first timer like me! Cintias clear, patient instructions on technique and safety had us gliding across the water in no time and guided us to stunning spots in front of the sunrise. The boards and gear were top-notch, and her encouraging vibe created such a fun, relaxed atmosphere. I left feeling happy and eager to paddle again. Once the paddle boarding session came to an end, we were escorted back to the shop where they provided a breakfast croissant and coffee. Moanas paddle boarding experience was the best—I would highly recommend this incredible experience!!! Thank you all so much 🩵

I had an absolutely incredible experience sailing with the captain Asier. From the moment we set Asier and set sail, his expertise and passion for the sea made every second unforgettable. The boat was amazing, he pointed out certain points within Barcelona, and shared fascinating stories about the coastline. Asier was warm, friendly and very welcoming, he provided drinks and snacks for everyone which was super lovely, and went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable, enjoying ourselves and offering refreshing drinks consistently. He made our experience amazing, shared his plans for the future about where he hopes to sail next which was very exciting and I hope you get to go soon! I can’t recommend sailing with Asier enough—10/10, would book again in a heartbeat!
