The Doges palace was larger and more impressive in real life than expected. St.Marks was closed on the ground floor due to flood damage from last November, but the interior could be viewed well from the upper balcony. The tour guide Monica was excellent, very clear, knowledgeable and considerate. It is worth booking a small tour to skip the ticket queues, as everyone still has to queue for security checks as well. We were also offered a free admission into a glass factory nearby at the end of the tour which was great.
When I saw the 'priority' queue to Palazzo Ducale I almost had a heart attack, but don't get fooled, it goes quick. I was in within 5 minutes. (It's not so much of a priority queue, more like a pre-booked ticket queue.) I'm not a fan of guided tours, so this was perfect for me! It's also good to know, once you enter Museo Correr, you have straight access to the Bibliotheca and the Archeology Museum too - these 3 are all together.
Francesca, pur Tour Guide was extremly competent and offerred us a richness of insights and explanations which made this private tour so great. She was very friendly and took care of our interests. And she did not work per the clock, She took the time we needed.
Sad for the locals, but wonderful for us to wander round without being hassled by crowds of other tourists. Were able to view all the rooms and paintings in our own time. Missed having the audio guide, though the info in each room helped a bit.
Very easy to find. The queue is split with the skip the line and the normal line. It was very good to pass the long queue and get direct admission at the time I had specified. The palace is a must when in Venice. Full of history, art.
