Amsterdam: Small-Group Bike Tour of Central Amsterdam
- Duration: 3 hours
It sometimes feels like there are more bikes in Amsterdam than any other mode of transportation. Cycling is highly favored by the local population, so a bike tour is an ideal way to take in the city. To ensure fun, though, you need to take the right precautions!
Wear a helmet and more importantly, don't wear headphones. To be alert as possible, you want to make sure you can hear all traffic around you.
Locals often ride quite close to each other and quite quickly. Give yourself some time to adjust to the fast pace of the bike lanes, especially if you're not used to city cycling.
Sometimes seasoned bikers in Amsterdam will run red lights and dart in and out of alleys without looking. We recommend you leave the rule breaking to the pros and follow all traffic signs.
While you walk and bike around Amsterdam you'll notice that there's also a network of trams in the city. Be aware of the trams behind you as you cycle.
There are different types of bike lanes in Amsterdam. Some lanes are on street level and you'll be riding next to cars and others are on the sidewalk. Generally, there are symbols so you'll know which lane is yours. Make sure to follow the direction of traffic as most bike lanes are one-way.
Amsterdam's locals cycle year round and it is one of the best ways to get around this city. We would recommend avoiding biking only when it's raining, as the roads can be quite slick.
Most cyclists in Amsterdam actually don't wear a helmet and car drivers are quite aware of bikers. However, if you are out of practice or simply nervous, we recommend wearing some protective headgear.

Amsterbike tour of central Amsterdam was definitely the best experience I had in the city of Amsterdam. I had the chance to explore the city by bike, cycling around the canals and some of the most interesting spots of the city centre and, moreover, during this bike tour to learn about the history of this beautiful city, its hidden gems and its current situation. It was a really pleasant tour with my guide, Red, who is a very polite, pleasant, knowledgeable and eager to share his stories about the city person and of course a diligent cyclist! I recommend this tour to everyone in order to have a unique Dutch experience by bike!
So helpful when booking and getting lost on the way. We had Benjamin as our guide , he was brilliant . So informative about everything and such a lovely guy. The tour was great, lovely countryside and villages and fun using the Eco bikes. We highly recommend this tour and would definitely use this company again. Cheese farm very interesting Thank you so much for such a great trip. 10/10 x
Our tour guide Xavi was brilliant. He was both enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Amsterdam and its history. The cycle itself was very relaxed and suitable for all fitness levels. We were shown the tallest wooden windmill in the Netherlands, the world-famous Rijksmuseum and Vondelpark to name a few places. 10/10 would recommend.
Lovely trip to the Dutch countryside, which - it turns out - is just a short ride outside of the buzzing Amsterdam city streets. Thijs shared great insights on the area we cycled through and I now have some villages & cafes to return to and more on the list to explore! Thanks for the nice ride!
It was an amazing tour with our guide Stan. He showed us everything and even took us to a cafe for a break. Doing a tour by bike is really the best way to explore Amsterdam. I would really recommend doing this tour with Stan. He has so much knowledge and is such a great guide!!
