Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel: Tour

2. Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel: Tour

Discover one of the greatest art collections in the world on a guided tour of the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel.  Your local guide will take you to the most interesting galleries within the museums – the Rotunda, Gallery of Tapestries and Gallery of Maps. Each of these rooms contains ornate ceilings with the walls decorated with ancient statues, frescoes, and tapestries. Of course, the greatest gem of the Vatican collection is not a painting on any wall, but an entire ceiling and wall completely frescoed by the greatest genius of the Renaissance period – Michelangelo Buonarotti. From the Creation of Adam to the Last Judgement, Michelangelo dedicated some of his greatest years to the Sistine Chapel, working day and night – even sleeping in the chapel – to satisfy the popes of Rome. He also expressed his frustration with his employers with jokes hidden in his work. Today these have been uncovered and understood. Listen as your guide lets you in on Michelangelo’s private jokes.

Seeing the Borghese was the one thing I wanted to see in detail whilst visiting Roma and so I spent a little extra on a private tour, well worth it! Anna, my guide, was fantastic. Very knowledgeable, picked out a nice selection to focus on during our limited time (one could spend days there) and had some great stories to tell about how Borghese created his collection (hint, don’t say no to Borghese!). My fav thing to see was the Apollo and Daphne room where you can literally see Daphne transform into a tree! Back at my hotel which was the parc dei principi grand, suddenly all the random paintings on the wall came to life as many were copies of what I had explained to me in detail by Anna! Finally, one can only imagine the true splendore of the Borghese and all the grounds when it was in its original shape (like before Napoleon “borrowed a bunch of stuff”).

Our guide Angelo was great! He brought us to all the major sites and showed us the best way to get around the city! He was very knowledgeable and kind. It was a perfect tour for our first full day in Roma

Fabio was an excellent guide. He had a profound knowledge, gave us interesting explanations and took his time to guide us. We would take any tour with him.

Fantastic experience, with great, detailed descriptions of the forum and colosseum

It was incredible and our guide very entertaining, I recommend it....
