Why not visit an extra country during your holiday? Until not so long ago, it was impossible to visit Albania because of a strict communistic regime. It was even called the “North Korea” of Europe. However nowadays, the country is liberated, you will have the opportunity to see the differences between the neighbors, North Macedonia and Albania. Trace the visible remaining’s of the dictatorship that ruled Albania together. By bus you will be brought to the city of Pogradec and take a coffee break before exploring the city further. Afterwards you will enjoy a lunch and further your journey towards the idyllic fishing village of Lin. Active yourself with a short walk in the nature surrounding this village. Afterwards travel back to North Macedonia to head back to your accommodation. Interesting note: While making a whole lap around the lake of Ohrid, be aware how the colors of the water changes while driving.

The city of Ohrid, where for centuries the cradle of different cultures converges together. Founded from the presence of Ilirain and Greek tribes, throughout its history it has been subject to the influence of various empires - from the Roman, Byzantine, Bulgarian, Turkish, Serbian, Yugoslavian and finally, as part of the Independent Republic of North Macedonia. Perched atop the hills of the city, Ohrid has been standing since the rule of Bulgarian Tsar Samuil in the 10th Century. Before walking uphill to the fortress we can visit the Ancient Theatre of Ohrid, the only Hellenistic-type theatre in the country built in 200 BC. The open theatre has a perfect location: the two hills that surround it keep it protected from winds that could interfere with acoustics during performances. Perched atop the precipice of Kaneo Beach, facing Lake Ohrid in the ancient city of Ohrid, North Macedonia stands a majestic church devoted to John of Patmos, the author of Revelation, who some believe to be the esteemed John the Apostle. enture to the City center and the venerable Old Bazaar area, where we can observe the traditional dwellings of Ohrid. Much of the city is laid with Stone, explaining why it was initially known as Lyhnidas, derived from Latin (an exquisite gemstone radiating brightness). After our reverent visit to Ohrid, we shall venture to the illustrious Monastery of Sveti Naum. This revered place of worship is where the blessed St. Naum is laid to rest. People from lands far and wide gather here to pay tribute to their faith. Notably, the Monastery Complex was part of the Albanian border from 1912-1925, until it was subsequently returned to Yugoslavia. Continuing our pilgrimage, we shall make our way to the quaint town of Tushemisht, which holds many resemblances to the holy city of Ohrid, given its resounding adherence to the Eastern Orthodox faith We can enjoy a meal by the Ohrid Lake in the Albanian part. You will have the chance to try the local unique fish Koran, a type of fish in the trout family found nowhere else in the world but The Ohrid Lake.

The goal of this tour is to cycle around the lake of Ohrid, which is a distance of a whooping 94 km! Encountering a dozen different idyllic (fishing) villages, ancient historical remaining’s and pure nature. On the road many photo stops and breaks will be made, for example, in the National Park of Galicica, where you will have the chance to make astonishing pictures. Your adventure starts in the city of Ohrid at 09:00, where your e-bike and gear are waiting. Bike until you reach the border and arrive into the town of Pogradec, where you will take a break and enjoy your lunch. From Pogradec cycle back to North-Macedonia. After passing the border again, you will go via Struga to the starting point in Ohrid, where your transfer will bring you back to your accommodation.

Following a pickup from your accommodation in Durrës or Tirana, embark on a guided tour of the charming city of Ohrid. Explore the charming city on a guided tour with a local guide. As we leave the bustling city behind, we'll trace the historic routes once traveled by the Romans on their way to Constantinople. Coffee Break After a scenic drive, we'll pause for a quick coffee break by the Shkumbin River. This 15-minute stop will be the perfect moment to stretch your legs and savor a warm beverage before continuing our journey. A Stroll in Pogradec Our next stop is the charming town of Pogradec, where we'll take a leisurely 20-30 minute walk. This quaint town offers a delightful taste of local life, with its beautiful lakeside promenade and friendly atmosphere. Boating and Lunch in Drilon From Pogradec, we'll head to the peaceful retreat of Drilon. Here, we'll board a boat and glide across the tranquil waters, surrounded by lush greenery. After our boat ride, we'll enjoy a delicious meal by the lake Ohrid, taking in the serene environment for 1.5 to 2 hours. Visiting Saint Naum Next, we'll cross into North Macedonia to visit the stunning Saint Naum Monastery. With 30-40 minutes to explore, you'll have time to admire the breathtaking views and learn about the rich history of this sacred site, founded in 905 by Saint Naum of Ohrid. Exploring Ohrid Our journey continues to the historic city of Ohrid, often referred to as the "Jerusalem of the Balkans" for its numerous churches. We'll explore the highlights of the city, including a scenic walk along the wooden bridge by the lake, a visit to the magnificent Saint Sophia Church, and other notable landmarks. You'll have plenty of opportunities to take photos and immerse yourself in the local culture. Discovering Struga After exploring Ohrid, we'll head to the nearby town of Struga. Here, we'll enjoy a pleasant walk by the river, capturing beautiful moments with our cameras and soaking in the tranquil ambiance of this lovely town. Return to Tirana As our day comes to an end, we'll make our way back to Tirana, filled with memories of the breathtaking landscapes and historic treasures we've discovered. You'll be dropped off at your hotel, concluding a day of exploration and adventure. Ohrid and Lake Ohrid are the main tourist spots in Macedonia. Due to the large number of churches and monasteries, the city is known as the Balkan and European Jerusalem. Ohrid is also known as the "city of light" which is a literal translation of its old name, Lychnid. The Ohrid region is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Modern Ohrid is the successor of the ancient Lychnid. After we meet on the agreed spot, the transfer to Ohrid lasts about 3 hours. During the trip we shall pass through the National Park of Mavrovo and Make a stop in the 1000 years old monastery St. Jovan Bigorski and see its famous wood carving. The road will bring us in the most beautiful part of the country, along the river Radika, called “Macedonian Switzerland”, because of its beautiful nature, colours and villages all over the massifs of Korab and Bistra mountains. After we arrive in Ohrid we shall go through the Gorna Porta, the gate to enter the ancient walls of the Fortress of Ohrid. The first attraction we visit is the Church of Holy Mary Peryvleptos, from the 13th century, with its unique fresco painting. From there we will see the Ancient Theater, a roman theater from the 3rd century BC and then the Fortress of Samuel, an ancient construction and then the capitol of the Kingdom of King Samuel. From here, we shall visit Plaoshnik, archaeological site and holy place, where the church of St. Clement was built, in 893, on the foundation of an earlier Christian basilica. The cobblestone shall bring us to the St. Jovan Kaneo, a church from the 13 century, with the most magnificent view. The most famous view from the postcards from Ohrid! The path will bring us to the lake, where we could make a short break for coffee or beer, on the very popular beach Potpesh. Going back through the typical houses of the Old Town we shall make a stop to visit the tremendous St. Sofija Church, with housing architecture and art from the Middle Ages. The current church was built on the foundations of a metropolitan cathedral demolished in the first decade of the 6th century. After the tour we shall sit down in a very traditional Ohrid ethno restaurant, with nice hosts, who love to tell stories. They give the customers sometimes something to draw for them for memory and remembrance. The last part of the tour begins with the visit of the Bay of Bones, the museum on water, an archeological complex and an authentic reconstruction of the pile dwelling settlement, dating back between 1200 and 700 BC. From here we will make a visit of the Sveti Naum Monastery, a place with beautiful fresco painting, rare beauty and tradition from the 9th century. The monastery is on the border with Albania, so we shall have a possibility to take a look at the Albanian town Pogradec. This will be the perfect ending of this beautiful tour and we will head back to Skopje later in the afternoon. This tour will bring you closer to our culture, history and religion. Let’s meet Ohrid!

Travel to the village of Tushemisht which is mainly inhabited by Orthodox Albanians. Experience the unique culture of this village and see how the streams cross through the village. Hear about its part in Albanian cinematography. Make your way to the city of Pogradec to see the old town where some traditional architecture is still preserved. Combine the old with the new as you view the modern part of the city and take some time to take in views of the lake before returning to Tirana.

You’ll get a real feel for traditional Albanian village life here. In Korça, we’ll visit the vibrant New Bazaar. It’s a bustling market filled with local produce and crafts. The energy is contagious, and it’s a fun place to pick up unique souvenirs. Then, we’ll head to Dardha, known for its beautiful landscapes and skiing opportunities at Bigëll Ski Resort. If you really like skiing you will love this place. Even if you’re not hitting the slopes, the area’s beauty is sure to impress. What Will Happen: After all the exploration, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch in Dardha. You’ll get to taste lakror, a traditional Albanian pie that’s sure to delight your taste buds. This included meal is a perfect way to recharge and experience local flavors. While skiing isn’t included in this tour, the chance to see the slopes and perhaps plan a future ski trip makes it an exciting part of our adventure.
