Located at the western end of Hyde Park, Kensington Palace has been a royal residence for over 300 years. Rich with history and surrounded by tranquil gardens, it's also one of London's foremost attractions. Here are a few facts to start off your tour!
This event was significant because it provided King James II with a Catholic heir to the throne, thus sparking the Glorious Revolution that saw William of Orange usurp the throne.
Now William III, the Dutch King of England immediately sought a less "grimy" residence than the Palace of Whitehall. Back then, Kensington was a rural retreat surrounded by forest!
The Kensington Palace Orangery was built in 1704 to grow exotic fruits. Now a café, the building boasts one of London's most decadent afternoon teas!
She also met her future husband Albert there, but despite its significance in her early life, she moved to Buckingham Palace on becoming queen and never stayed at Kensington again!
Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon would invite stars of the age to lavish parties at the palace. Liverpool's most famous sons often performed songs around the drawing room piano!
Kensington Palace is open from 10:00AM all year round, except December 24th to 26th. It closes at 6:00PM from March 1st to October 31st, and 5:00PM the rest of the year. Last admissions are an hour before closing.
Set aside at least two or three hours to tour Kensington Palace and its gardens, but don't forget to allow time for tea and cakes (or even champagne!) at the Orangery.
Really enjoyed our trip to London and our package we purchased. We wanted to do the London Eye and hop on hop off bus - the river cruise was an additional extra thrown in and ended up being the highlight. We ended up walking most of the way around the city, only using the bus twice - both times to go just one stop. Magnificent views from the London Eye - but the cruise was just wonderful. We went from Tower Bridge to Westminster. The guy speaking was really funny and the facts super interesting. The baileys hot chocolate on board also delicious. Would absolutely recommend.
What isn't clearly drfined in the listing above the Skip The Line sites, which is about 8. While there is a symbol the voucher guide the list is dense and underwhelming when a popular site doesn't have this feature. I'll will say the Tower of London and Churchill War Cabinet museums had the Skip thr line feature and eell worth the money for thise 2 alone.
The individual at the booking was very knowledgeable and gave excellent suggestions on what color lines to take for seeing and doing the most for the tour. Also, great discounts for the main attractions within the stops made. All listed in the map.
The ticket was not avaidable on tje 2nd day with the app, i was lucky that i printed it aswell otherwise i would not be able to use it any more.
We had a really lovely day , we learnt lots , things we didn’t know , the staff were exceptional , really helpful , polite and knowledgeable .
