Things to do in Getxo

Your boat route to the sea through the Bilbao estuary and the Bahía del Abra will begin in the Biscayan capital, a few meters from the town hall bridge. From there, board a traditional boat with indoor and outdoor seating and enjoy a panoramic route along the Ría del Nervión. This trip can take up to 2 hours and 45 minutes. During it, visit places such as the Deusto Canal, the Portugalete Hanging Bridge, the city of Getxo, or the fishing port of Santurtzi.

Depart Bilbao and head to Vitoria-Gasteiz to explore the capital city of the Basque Country. Take a guided walking tour through the old town to see the cathedral, parliament and historical monuments of Plaza de la Virgen Blanca. Discover a medieval quarter in Plaza del Machete and admire the Church of San Miguel. Go to Añana Salt Valley and learn the history of one of the oldest salt mines in the world. Venture through the Ayala Valley and the mining area of Bizkaia (Biscay) to reach the coast at Santurtzi and Portugalete, where you will cross the Vizcaya Bridge, the first transporter bridge built in the world with a metal structure, to Getxo.

Throughout this four-hour bike tour, starting in Bilbao, discover the maritime and industrial history of the villas. Explore the iron mines and learn about the way the citizens were able to transform the natural landscape into a place worth admiring. Begin your trip by visiting the new icons of the city, including the Guggenheim Museum, Euskalduna Congress Palace, and the Maritime Museum. During the 19th century the region of Bilbao experienced a huge industralisation development that led to two very different social classes: working class and bankers. Each one laid on river Nervion's West and East banks, and both areas developed their own way. This tour will take you to learn about the Bizkaia bridge, built in late 19th century as a representation of the iron industry in the area, and the link of both river banks. On the left side there lies the medieval village of Portugalete, with steep and narrow streets and Camino de Santiago routes. On the right side, you will discover Getxo, with all her different areas: from majestic Las Arenas and exclusive palaces of Neguri to the charming centuries-old houses of the Old Port in Algorta and the astonishing views from the cliffs of Punta Galea. Our next stop will be Getaria, a unique medieval fishing village and birthplace of famous people such as Captain Juan Sebastián Elcano, the first man to circumnavigate the world by sea, and Cristóbal Balenciaga, the famous designer. We will then pass through Zarauz, a beautiful tourist spot with the largest beach in the province of Gipuzkoa and arrive in San Sebastian, where we will take a walking tour of the Old Town and have free time for lunch. In the afternoon, we will go to Mount Igeldo to contemplate the incredible view of La Concha Bay before returning to Bilbao in the evening. Day 3: San Sebastian Breakfast at the hotel Enjoy a free day to explore San Sebastian. Visit San Telmo Museum with the entrance ticket included in the program. Day 4: San Sebastian - Rioja - Vitoria Breakfast at the hotel Our first stop will be Ordizia, where we will go on a walking tour to discover this beautiful town with many ancient buildings and monuments. Our next stop will be Oñati where we will visit the Sancti Spiritus University, one of the gems of the civil architecture of the Basque Renaissance. Later we will head to Arantzazu Sanctuary, where we will visit the majestic monument and example of contemporary sacred architecture. Our last stop will be Laguardia, where we will go on a guided tour around the beautiful medieval town and we will have free time for lunch. Finally we will take a panoramic tour of Vitoria,on our way to the hotel. Day 5: Vitoria - Bilbao Breakfast at the hotel In the morning we will visit Añana Salt Valley, where we will learn about the historic salt mining industry. We will continue to Orduña, where we will take a guided walking tour of the town. We will then stop for lunch in Balmaseda, and finally we will visit the Bizkaia Bridge, the oldest transporter bridge in use before heading back to Bilbao. Day 6: Bilbao Breakfast at the hotel Enjoy some free time in Bilbao before leaving to the airport/station. Private transfer to the airport/station.
