Santa Cruz: Hidden Waterfalls & Secret Paradise Hike

Santa Cruz: Hidden Waterfalls & Secret Paradise Hike

The day begins in Santa Cruz la Laguna, the rugged north shore of Lake Atitlan. The north shore of Lake Atitlan has no true road access, so you will be hiking along ancient paths that have been used by the Kachekel Maya for centuries. You will view villagers going about their daily life, encounter farmers tending their maiz and coffee fields, and see some of the most magnificent scenery in the world. This rugged and remote section of Lake Atitlan has barely been touched by the outside world.  Our hike takes us several hundred feet above the ever changing waters of Atitlan for breath taking views of the famous volcanoes. Then descend into the Pumpatin Canyon for a nature walk along the banks of the river. You will experience two different ecosystems as we walk from the upper lake shore into the narrow canyon. The further into the Pumpatin Canyon we hike, the more waterfalls we see. We have the potential to find up to 5 waterfalls. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the banks of the river, and take a swim if you desire.

Our driver was polite and very competent! However, travelers should be prepared for a lengthy trip (4+ hours). This is the nature of travel in Guatemala. That not withstanding, we were very pleased with our driver and the van. We are so glad we used this service rather than trying to rent a car and drive ourselves!

Great tour! My guide Rosa gave me the choice of what towns we could go to, and she took me to all of the highlights of Lake Atitlan! She was very educational and provided a day full of fun! This is such a beautiful place, and it was very nice to explore for the day! Thank you :)

This was a fantastic experience! It was so great to get an authentic experience of Mayan cuisine & even take home the recipes!! Just be careful to check boat shuttle times back if you’re booking a later time, I kinda got stranded there !!

We felt so welcome in Alicia's kitchen. The cooking portion was awesome but it was an even more impactful experience to simply talk about life with a lovely local family! I highly recommend.

It was def a rough hike but beautiful. The tour guide was great.
