From Tulum: Sian Ka'an Half-Day Tour

1. From Tulum: Sian Ka'an Half-Day Tour

The ancient Mayan ruins of Muyil in the middle of the Sian Kaan Jungle Reserve look like something out of an old Indian Jones movie. Here, you will discover the incredible history of this ancient civilization, as you wander through the ruins. Muyil was one of the earliest and longest inhabited ancient Maya sites on the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, and artifacts have been found here dating all the way back to 350BCE! On our day together, we will walk through this inspiring eco-preserve to the highest point in the Sian Kaan reserve, where we can gaze out at unblemished jungle that is filled with hundreds of species of birds, plants and animal life. After our hike, we will enjoy a boat ride through the trading canals of the ancient Maya civilization and visit the Maya temple of Xlapak. Here, you can gaze at the detailed facades of these old ruins, located at the bottom of the river valley. They are so well preserved, you will easily be able to pick out the figures (keep an eye out for the Rain god!) After visiting this site, we will float back down through the canals between mangroves and gently carry ourselves out in the crystal-clear waters around the peninsula. On board, enjoy an assortment of Mexican snacks as the sunsets over this beautiful landscape. Together we will experience the best of this region! The food, the culture, the nature and a bit of relaxation make this an absolutely perfect day trip from your home base in Playa del Carmen.

Our guide Marco was incredibly informed, spoke with great detail and passion, and kept his energy positive and upbeat throughout the long trip. The day was well organised, the tour fascinating, and the cenote swim an absolute joy. The only negative points: Get Your Guide website said we’d leave Tulum at 730. We left at 8:15am and began our tour at nearly 11am. The sun was so hot I got a bad migraine and was exhausted by 1pm. Would strongly prefer to start a tour like this at 930am latest. Our driver drove above the speed limit (!)… made us queasy. Lunch was very light and more like an appetiser than a full meal, considering the price we paid ($130 per person).

We went on this tour with Cesar, whose personal enthusiasm and knowledge of history, culture, and nature, was inspiring. We went on a tour in the jungle - learned about the hidden ruins and the environment, and then got on a boat to go float down a lagoon! It was the very best experience, especially as we did not really know what to expect. Cesar kept us amused, informed, and fed with food is family had made (what a wonderful touch)!

The right guide makes all the difference in the world. I've been on many different tours and I have to say that Servando is one of the best guides I've ever had. Incredibly knowledgeable, warm, engaging and extremely patient. Everything you want in a great guide.

It was a great experience. We loved it : the walk in the reserve and the swim through the mangrove in the lagoon was amazing. Our guide Santiago was the best!

It was a great combo to visit the Tulum ruins, swim in the Atumal bay and be able to see turtles and see in a great cenote. Our guide was great as well.
