The first monument to visit is the Nilometer. It’s situated in the southern tip of Roda Island. It is one of the oldest existent structures which dates back to the period just after the Arab conquest of Egypt. Taxes were levied only when the waters of the Nile had risen to a certain designated level, which would irrigate the land during flood season. Then moving on to visit the remarkable Manial Palace of Prince Mohamed Ali Pasha “King Farouk’s uncle”. The residence compound, composed of five separate and distinctively styled buildings, is surrounded by gardens planted with rare tropical plants collected by the prince on his travels along a small branch of the Nile. Then, Ending the tour with a visit to the City of Dead or Cairo cemetery which contains a vast area of tombs and mausoleums, some of them are dating back the Islamic Conquest of Egypt at 642 AD. The guide was really very prepared and passionate in what he told us, he spoke very well Italian and was always very professional managing to put us at ease and make us enjoy the day in all serenity, admiring the wonders of the Giza complex. Our tour assistant, Amir, was available to answer all our requests and needs. Thanks to them we spent a beautiful day full of history and culture.

At the pyramids there was lots of information from my guide Amin and enough time to take photos and ride a camel to the viewpoint. The felucca ride on the Nile was a wonderful and romantic end to a successful day and Amin had many interesting things and funny anecdotes to tell.
