You can't get more Mexican than luche libre wrestling. The atmosphere at Arena Mexico was intoxicating, the wrestlers were entertaining and the beer was flowing. Leaving the purchase of tickets and transport details to Amigo Tours took away any stress and allowed me to relax and enjoy the night. The pre-event run down on luche libre and tequila shots with the charismatic bartender at Hostel Amigo had the group pumped and ready for a great night out. I would highly recommend this tour. It was a highlight of my stay in Mexico City.
The tour is nice! When you meet then there’s a bus to hop on. We receive a mask, a small shot of tequila and the guide starts explaining about the “lucha libre”. When they drop us off we have a few minutes to wander around the market And then we receive the tickets to get in. It was a bit confusing this part because the guide seats everyone. It took around 20 to seat us. The seats are very far back but you can see the arena. The wrestling Was very cool!
I was in Mexico City for a week and so anxious to see some of the traditional dance that I had witnessed from Mexican visitors to my community years ago. Had earlier toured the building to see the murals. But I was unprepared for the vivacity and choreography of the show... took my breath away. Plus the that night the dancers honored survivors of the 1968 shooting and that was poignant for me.
I was instructed to arrive at six and to not be late. When I got there the hostel door-guy told me it wasn't until 7:30. Really wished I would have known that beforehand. Otherwise our guide was excellent (Sandy, I think) She was knowledgeable and helpful, and very ready to answer questions . The event was awesome. Safety~wise the area was overall fine and I think you should definitely go.
Friendly, astute and well versed guide took us on a journey into a national treasure for which he had his own passion. And we had a blast to boot!
