Our family was in Fukuoka for a bit longer so we were able to go on four day trips. All the trips were great, five stars each but of the four, this was my husband’s favorite and my second favorite. In rank order: - Whimsical Day - Frog Temple, Yufuin Floral Village, Beppu Hells: for the variety and only-in-Japan whimsy. - Natural Scenic Wonders Day - this trip, Mount Aso and Takachiho Gorge: It’ll be luck of the draw if Aso is open for viewing, but if it is it’ll be two dramatically different natural wonders in one day. The long distances allow for napping. - Canal Day - Takeo Library, Yanagawa Canal city, Dazaifu: noting Dazaifu has a temp main shrine until renovations are complete in 26 or 27?? Yanagawa boating was special. Loved the public-private partnership that resulted in this beautiful library. - Traditional Onsen Day - mossy shrine Kamisjikimi, Mount Aso (was closed when we went), Kurosawa Onsen. Kurokawa Onsen was the highlight here, beautiful and peaceful.
