It enshrines 12 deities, including the grandson of Emperor Jimmu, and serves as the head shrine for over 450 Aso Shrines across the country. The site is recognized as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. 14:10 pm Kumamoto: Kurokawa Onsen (Approx. 90 mins, free time; onsen admission not included) Tucked away in the mountains, Kurokawa Onsen is one of Japan’s most charming hot spring towns, known for its nostalgic architecture, misty rivers, and lush greenery. Wander its peaceful streets, shop for souvenirs, or relax in a scenic open-air bath. Even if you don’t soak in the springs, the serene village atmosphere and forest-flavored sweets make this a delightful stop.
