Wroclaw: Project Riese and Ksiaz Castle Private Tour

Wroclaw: Project Riese and Ksiaz Castle Private Tour

Start your day with pickup from your hotel in Wroclaw and drive to the first stop of the day Project Riese. Project Riese was the code name for an impressive construction project initiated by Nazi Germany between 1943 and 1945, consisting of seven underground structures located in the Owl Mountains and Ksiaz Castle. Explore this extraordinary network of underground caverns, all in different states of completion, and learn about the history of the site as you wander around. After Project Riese, head to Ksiaz Castle, the third largest castle in Poland with more than 400 rooms. The castle was home to the Hochbergs for more than 400 years, who were one of the richest and most famous families in Europe. The Hochbergs owned a lot of land in Poland, but their time in the castle came to an end at the start of World War Two, when the castle was seized by Nazis who planned to turn it into one of Hitler’s residences. Enjoy the freedom to explore the sites at your own leisure, and take the time to learn about their rich history. At the end of the day, head back to your transportation to return to Wroclaw.

Wroclaw: Lower Silesia, Ksiaz Castle & Church of Peace Tour

Wroclaw: Lower Silesia, Ksiaz Castle & Church of Peace Tour

Książ is the third largest castle in Poland, located on a majestic rock cliff by the side of the Pelcznica River. Beautifully surrounded by the forest at the height of 395 meters above sea level, the castle is often called ‘the Pearl of Lower Silesia’. Such a location corresponding to the size of the building is rare in Europe. In 1943, Hitler’s paramilitary organization had stormed into the castle and began to construct one of the most important quarters for Adolf Hitler. The Church of Peace in Świdnica is the largest timber-framed religious buildings in Europe, built in the former Silesia in the mid-17th Century amid the religious strife that followed the Peace of Westphalia. Constrained by the physical and political conditions, the Churches of Peace bear testimony to the quest for religious freedom and are a rare expression of Lutheran ideology in an idiom generally associated with the Catholic Church. Built outside the city walls, made of wood or clay and built in less than a year, now placed on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. Świdnica's Market Square - very charming place that is a must-visit. Renovated, colorful townhouses with Gothic relics, beautiful fountains, including a well with Neptune from 1732, and impressive lighting awarded in competitions make quite an impression. The Wałbrzych Palm House arose from the initiative of the last representative of the Hochberg dynasty in Książ Castle, Hans Heinrich XV. The Prince had it built for his spouse, Mary Theresa Cornwallis-West. It is the only such facility in Poland that has been preserved in its original construction.

Could not have asked for a better experience. Vasily, from the moment we meet him, was wonderful. We spent the best part of 9 hours in his company and he was totally engaging and helpful. We drove from Wroclaw to Prague on backroads other than toll roads, and his knowledge of the countryside kept us enthralled the whole way. His obvious love of Poland shone through and his pride in its achievements left a very positive mark on us. BTW we had booked this trip having had a fairly ordinary experience on the train from Krakowska to Wroclaw. We cancelled our onward ticket and booked this drive. Sure it was more expensive but we are the better for it. A wonderful day. We meet up with Vasily the next morning for coffee in Prague. I feel we have made a new friend. Great way of getting from A to B. Thanks Vasily. I would highly recommend

We really enjoyed this tour and our guide was great. We ended up being the only two people, so it was like a private tour! We even had some extra time due to a bit of miscommunication at the castle about the pickup, so our guide offered to take us to Gross-Rosen Concentration Camp instead of the Market Square in Świdnica. Although a sad addition to the tour, it was very interesting and unexpected.
