Porto: Fado Show with Port Wine

1. Porto: Fado Show with Port Wine

According to Amália Rodrigues, the great fado singer, "The point is to feel fado. Because fado is not sung, it happens. It cannot be explained, only felt." The project "Fado by Casa da Guitarra" intends to offer to you the essence of this musical genre in an evening of enchantment and wonder. During the hour-long concert, you will come in contact with very unique Portuguese cultural elements - fado, Portuguese traditional stringed instruments, wine - all of which are deeply related with Portuguese history. The acoustic fado performance takes place in an intimate setting with a female leading singer, accompanied by a Portuguese guitar player and a guitar player (playing a viola de fado), who occasionally lends his voice to the fado songs. A traditional port wine will served during the interlude to round out your evening.

The Serralves Villa was the highlight of the tour since I did not realize that there existed such a well preserved Villa constructed between 1925-1944. The best of the best French and Portuguese architects, designers and Landscape Architects. While we were at the Villa, we experience the Joan Miro exhibit in all its glory. And, when the rain stopped, we ventured to the expansive garden featuring pools, fountains, beautiful tree specimens and sculpture in the likes of Claes Oldenberg, Anish Kapoor and a stunning Aristide Maillol. I wish there was a book available on the Life of Carlos Alberto Cabral the original owner who commissioned such a beautiful Art Deco Villa.

A multimedia performance showcasing the history and movement of fado throughout the years. Enjoyed the guitars tremendously, amazing skills! And the singers will both wow and touch you with their heartfelt songs. So glad I decided to go for this show!

An intimate but impactful performance in a stunning but simple venue. The musicians were all individually talented and were magical together. Would definitely recommend. The glass of port was also good!
