Enjoy a guided tour of Naples and Pompeii following the "Highway of the Sun" through the fertile Roman countryside of the "Castelli Romani.". Continue after lunch with a guided visit to the excavations. Your guide will explain Pompeii's tragic story from an archaeological perspective and uncover what has lain beneath the ashes. Afterward, on the way back to Rome, you will stop to visit a coral and cameo factory, where you can admire and purchase items of the ancient craft that dates back to Greek times.

The boat excursion includes a tour of the coast of Naples, accompanied by a guide who will illustrate the coast and its main monuments. Departure is from the small port of Mergellina (next to the hydrofoil departures). The 3-hour excursion includes an aperitif on board and snorkelling equipment for swimming. By sea, it will be possible to admire the picturesque Castel dell'Ovo, Palazzo Donn'Anna, Villa Rosebery, Villa Lauro and the Gaiola marine area (without entering because it is a protected marine area). You’ll drive up the Vomero hill for a view over the town which overlooks the bay of Naples and extends from the Sorrento peninsula to the volcanic area of Phlegrean fields. Admire the majestic and still active volcano Vesuvius which dominates the skyline. This is the perfect spot to take photos of this stunning landmark. Driving down towards the port of Mergellina, travel south towards Mount Vesuvius and the town of Pompeii. After lunch, you'll travel back in time to 79 A.D. When the life and people of Pompeii were frozen by a volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Afterward, take in breathtaking views of the Sorrento coast and enjoy a special fine dinner and an overnight stay hotel on the Sorrento coast. Day 2 For departures from April to October, depart after breakfast and relax on a boat trip to the stunning resort island of Capri. Good weather will allow a visit to the magical blue waters of the Grotta Azzurra caves. Then, unwind on a scenic drive up to Anacapri for breathtaking views of the Bay of Naples and a delicious local meal. In your free time, enjoy shopping in the piazza, and explore the cozy streets of Capri. Afterward, enjoy the sun and sea air on the coast. For departures from November to March, you'll have free time in Sorrento to discover the coast or to take a trip to Capri on your own (not included).

The port where private boats embark in Naples is called Mergellina. The port where the cruise ships come in is called Beverello. If you are arriving by cruise ship, a driver can be arranged to meet your below your cruise ship. They will then take you to Mergellina, where your private boat will be waiting.  The captain will pick you up at the pier and head along the coastline towards the Island of Capri. You will see the Sorrento Coast on one side and the island of Capri in front of you, with Naples and Mt. Vesuvius to your right as you cross the Bay of Naples. The views are spectacular.  You will cross the Bay of Naples to Capri, stopping to swim in various caves/ lagoons, checking out the rock formations and learning a bit about the island.  One of the best parts about chartering a boat is that the captain is a local of the area.  Ask him about the coastline and he will be more than happy to give you some information about what you are seeing as well as insider tips regarding the best things to do and see. We will first look at Borgo Marinari, once a craggy village where – according to legend – the heartbroken mermaid Parthenope ran aground after failing to seduce Ulysses with her mermaid song. It is also the place where the Greeks settled for the first time in the 7th century BC, calling the island Megaride: The Egg Castle was built right on top of this peninsula! Walking along via Chiaia, we will see with our own eyes where the first Pizza was made, we will understand its history and we will rejoice in the magnificent Piazza del Plebiscito, admiring the Royal Palace and the San Carlo Theater. Let yourself be amazed at the Galleria Umberto I, just as you discover the life of the LGBTQ artists who lived in this ancient capital, and touch love first-hand, in the Spanish Quarters, just before walking along via Toledo, the main Neapolitan shopping artery. Stroll around the Decumani area, accessing it through Spaccanapoli and continuing on Via San Gregorio Armeno, the "alley" of the nativity scenes.
