Meet your guide at Hiroshima Station and head to the Shukkei-en Garden. Admire the tea houses, bridges, and hills, while stopping at the best photo spots. Learn about the construction of Shukkei-en during the Edo period, its concept as a “miniaturized landscape,” and its different restorations in the past 400 years. Walk to the Hiroshima Castle Ruins and learn about the main locations within the ruins and their history, purpose, and significance. Visit the Castle Tower, Ninomaru enclosure, and Hiroshima Gokoku Shrine. Continue to the Atomic Bomb Dome located within the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Learn about the historical context of World War II and the events leading up to the bombing. Stop at the Children’s Peace Monument and learn about the story of Sadako Sasaki and the other children who perished as a result of the Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima. Next, visit the Cenotaph for the Victims of the Atomic Bomb, in which lies a registry of the names of all of those who perished as a consequence of the bombing. Stand in front of this monument and observe the “Flame of Peace,” and Atomic Bomb Dome in perfect alignment. Reflect on the impact of such a tragic event. Visit the Peace Memorial Museum and observe the personal belongings left behind by the victims of the atomic bombing. The exhibits will walk you through the events of August 6th, the many hardships and trauma that followed in the years after, and the ultimate reconstruction of the city. Next, your guide will take you to the pier located near the museum where you will board the ferry to Miyajima. This ferry ride is about 45 minutes long and your guide will indicate relevant spots along the way. After arriving at the Miyajima pier, walk to the first destination, Omotesando Shopping Street. This street is a perfect place to grab lunch, eat tasty snacks, or purchase souvenirs. Enjoy around two hours of free time before the guided tour in Miyajima. Visit the Senjokaku Pavilion, a shrine whose construction was never completed and still remains unfinished to this day. Learn about the history and different elements found within the shrine. Relax and take in the beautiful scenery of the island. Next, make your way to Itsukushima Shrine. Learn about Shintoism (Japan’s indigenous religion) and the history of the shrine. As you make your way through the temple, observe the different worship halls, the unique architecture of the “floating shrine,” and the iconic O-torii gate located in the Seto Inland Sea. Walk to the Daisho-in temple, a prestigious Shingon Buddhist temple including Daishi Hall, with its 88 statues representing the Shikoku Pilgrimage of 88 temples. The room is lit by golden lanterns which hang from the ceiling, creating a stunning and unique scenery. Once you arrive back at the pier, your guide will accompany you on the ferry back to the mainland and one last train ride, with the tour ending at Hiroshima Station.

Next, visit the Okakae Jizō Statue housed in a small nearby hut. Jizō statues are said to protect children and travelers. The importance of this particular statue lies in its claimed mystical powers. According to local legend, if you pick up the Okakae Jizō, make a wish, and the statue feels lighter than you expected, then your wish will come true. Next, head to Tadanoumi Port to board the ferry to Rabbit Island. Once you arrive on the island, take a brief stroll along the coast, stopping at different ruins and learning about the dark past of the island. After this part of the tour, have plenty of free time to explore the island on your own. While most people prefer to simply walk around feeding rabbits and taking pictures with them, there are other activities which one can enjoy. You can choose to soak in the hot springs at the Kyukamura Ōkunoshima hotel, rent a bicycle to explore the island, hike to the observation desk, visit the lighthouse, or eat a tasty meal at the restaurant within the hotel. The tour ends with one final ferry ride back to the mainland and one last train ride to Hiroshima Station, where your guide will say their goodbyes in front of the Shinkansen gates.

Take in the beauty of the entire island on the ropeway to the top of Mt. Misen and the hike to the summit. Start your day at Hiroshima Station, where you will meet your guide. Travel by train and ferry to Miyajima, and learn about the island's history and culture from your guide. The last main destination of the tour is Mount Misen, the highest point of Miyajima. Together with your guide, you will ride the Miyajima Ropeway all the way to the top of the mountain. Inside the cabin of the ropeway, you will be able to enjoy marvelous aerial views of the island. Once at the top, you will have the option of staying behind at the Shishiiwa Observatory next to the ropeway station or making the trek to the Mt. Misen Observatory at the summit. This hike is a steep and arduous walk towards the summit, but the magnificent view from the top with no obstructions whatsoever is most certainly worth it. Take the ropeway on the way down and make your way back to the pier. On this final walk, there will be opportunities for some last-minute souvenir purchases, as well as photos. A Miyajima trip is not complete without walking up to the O-torii gate during low-tide. However, due to how much the tide can vary from one day to another, your tour guide will do their best to schedule a guided walk towards the gate at the most appropriate moment during the tour. Once you arrive back at the pier, your guide will accompany you on the ferry back to the mainland and one last train ride, with the tour ending at Hiroshima Station.
