Naxos: Greek Cooking Class & Dinner at a Village House

1. Naxos: Greek Cooking Class & Dinner at a Village House

Many people believe that in order to know a place well you need to know its everyday life. Inviting you to the home in Kaloxylos, the locals prepare a typical Greek meal. You become part of the local life and experience the village way of living. The menu depends, each time, upon your personal preferences, the season and, of, course, what is growing in the village's gardens. Vegetables, dairy products, meat, olive oil and herbs are the main ingredients. Based on traditional recipes you learn how to add a personal family touch and you are ready.  You will cook and enjoy a meal in a traditional house in the center of the village, which is often an attraction for other residents who will welcome you too. The four-hour experience includes cooking and eating traditional Naxos foods.

What people are saying about Naxos

Such a great experience! We had a family of 5 with kids 20, 18 and 14 yrs old and everyone enjoyed it. Anna was excellent teacher and host. We picked our own vegetables, got educated on the history of the area, tried fresh fruit from various fruit trees, and made 2 authentic Greek recipes. While the food cooked we went on a short hike up the small river to see a historical Venetian tower - one of 40 on the island of Naxos. Following the hike a beautiful table was set with the incredible food we cooked and a few delicious additions plus of course homemade wine! New friends were made and experience that won’t be forgotten!

An absolute highlight of our trip. Gorgeous setting, incredible atmosphere. We hand picked vegetables from the garden and prepared everything at a the table with the group. This is a family owned and run business. Anna leads the class and is simply amazing. The food we cooked was phenomenal and was served with some other dishes prepared by Anna’s mom. She takes you on a great short hike while the food is cooking and shares tons of history about the area. We went with our ten year old son and there were 3 other kids there ages 7-12. Met the loveliest people. This is a true, authentic Greek experience. Do not miss it.

We can't recommend this enough! We spent a lovely afternoon at the Basiliko taverna, and hosts Anna and her family made us feel very welcome as they showed us around the farm and local walking trails and historic sites. All of the food was amazing, and getting to pick the vegetables we good was a special extra. We will be repeating the recipes at home.

We had a wonderful experience! Anna was a great host!! We picked our vegetables in the gardens, prepared some beautiful food, went on a short walk to see some ruins and enjoyed our delicious food and excellent homemade wine. Highly recommend.

Wonderful experience. Anna was a fabulous hostess. We picked veggies from her garden, prepared a delicious meal, took a short, beautiful walk while it cooked and came back to an amazing feast. Highly recommend!!
