Marlo was an excellent and caring tour guide. One of the best tours I have ever done in my life. He always made sure we were looked after, satisfied. He was extremely kind to everyone and tour was very well organized. He gave us enough time to explore each stops. And always greeted us with a welcoming smile. He even gifted us hand sanitizers because we really liked the one he was using. He went above and beyond, went to a shop and bought us 3 bottles of the same one he was using. We wanted to pay him but he didn’t accept the money.

  • Medellín: Private City Tour with Metrocable and Comuna 13

    6. Medellín: Private City Tour with Metrocable and Comuna 13

Get an insight into Colombia's troubled past on a private guided tour of the formerly dangerous district of Comuna 13 in Medellín.   Discover a replica of an old village at Pueblito Paisa on Nutibara Hill, and get stunning views over the rooftops from one of the city's few conserved ecosystems. Make your way to Comuna 13 to learn how the most notorious neighborhood in the country has reinvented itself. See stunning examples of street art and graffiti that puts the political and socio-economic story of the area into context. Once the center of the gang wars and guerilla activity, the area has been transformed by the local community with the help of government projects such as a giant escalator that runs up the hill. Visit the Botanical Garden and other sustainable city projects such as the charismatic Park of Desires, and the iconic sculptures by Fernando Botero on Botero Plaza.

We had gone to the botanical garden and the Pueblito Viejo had access issues so Mauricio took us first to Parque Arvi by cable car. The view of Medellin was phenomenal! The park is gorgeous and there was an awesome market for breakfast and arts & crafts. On the way back we took the Metro to Plaza Botero - the Botero sculptures juxtaposed with the checkered building are cool, though it’s not the nicest area of Medellin. Finally we drove to the Comuna 13. Mauricio told us about the history of the place and the stories behind most graffiti. Comuna 13 was the highlight of the tour and well worth it with an awesome guide. We had late lunch at the top of the Comuna in a neat house. We took the best pictures around Comuna 13 - so colorful!

The tour will last throughout the whole day as it is a long way from Medellin, but expect lots of fun! There will be breakfast included and plenty of places to eat lunch at the park.

Excellent trip, very well organized. Even though I don't speak Spanish and joined a Spanish-language tour, it was worthwhile to join for transportation to Hacienda Napoles in a comfortable bus, with good meal stops. The guide spoke some English, so I was able to follow along, but generally relied on my own research and park maps to get around. It would have been much trickier to arrange independently, so I was glad to have pick-up and drop-off by private bus. It's a very long day, but plenty to see and do at Hacienda Napoles.
